What does this mean:


Think of what Gilead is trying to pull off with the "Up" methyl and "down" Flouro (the one Sp Diastereomer that was inadvertently forgotten in Idenix's very first patent but then corrected with their 2002 patent). Well, back at ya!! Its the mirror image (Think of your own two hands - they each have 4 fingers and a thumb but they are mirror images of themselves).

Idenix has patented both the Rp and Sp versions of "the left Handed version" of the molecule. (remember all Nuc molecules have 4 versions: D, L, Sp, Rp)

In this case the Rp is a "down O- "
"up" NH- " on the Monophosphate

the Sp version is a "up O-"
"down NH- " bond on the Monophosphate.


Gilead is toast; sooner or later.
