Novartis to pay $72.5M to settle false claims suit

Bravo USA! Go after these bastards and get everything they OWE you. Most likely well over billion in fines and it will happen. Remember someone predicting this on WBers post. It is happening now and Novartis WBers are coming on board, some united as in this case, 3 brave and good people, unlike many of you who had the evidence but would not do the right thing because of...what, you tell us chickens?
Canada on the other hand does not have the good laws as USA, especially False Claim Act under which this is being done. How shameful. One major WBer there had more evidence of false claims etc etc than all of you put together and yet could not do anything to those bastards north of our border. Novartis Canada is one of the biggest ofenders in the world because there is no one to go after these fucking bastards. They got away and are getting away still. Maybe someone will come up with idea to import FCA from US and make it their own. Let's hope.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis AG is paying $72.5 million to settle a whistleblower lawsuit accusing it of improperly billing government programs for unapproved uses of a cystic fibrosis drug.

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced the settlement Tuesday and unsealed the lawsuit filed by former employees Robert Lalley, Courtney Davis and William Manos in 2006.

The lawsuit alleged that biotechnology company Chiron Corp., which Switzerland-based Novartis acquired in 2006, billed for unapproved uses of its drug TOBI between 2001 and 2006.

The federal government will receive $35.68 million. Ten states -- California, Illinois, Florida, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Massachusetts, Michigan and New York -- will split $29 million.

The three whistleblowers and their lawyers will divide $7.8 million.

As I predected things are happening. The universe is unfolding as it should and those of you who know things, who have the evidence (or could have it) and are not doing the right thing as these 3 did, are the same pieces of s..t as this co is. One day you'll be sorry you did not do it but it will be too late. Someone else will. Guaranteed.

As horrible as Novartis is the False Claims Act is nothing more than a tool for govt to extort money from pharma.

A doctor precribes a medicine and either he or the patient submit the bill to the govt and pharma has to pay the bill. I call bullshit.

Medicines and other products are often used justly for things other than their intended or approved use. This type of govt bullying lines their pockets with cash and hurts patients by denying them to use medications that are unapproved yet appropriate.

Come on people, as bad as big business can be, big govt is way scarier.

WRONG ON ALL ACCOUNTS. THE REAL CULPRIT IS THE BIGPHARMA THAT THINKS JUST BECAUSE THEY GIVE US SOME PILLS THAT HEAL (SOMETIMES) THEY ARE ENTITLED TO STEAL, CHEAT, DEFRAUD, LIE, BRIBE, AND YOU NAME THE CRIME THEY DO IT. SO FUCK OFF WITH YOUR APOLOGY FOR BIGPHARMA. FCA IS THE BEST THING EVER TO HAPPEN IN USA. IT WAS INTRODUCED IN 19TH CENTURY AND TODAY IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO DO IT DUE TO POWER OF BIGPHARMA AND OTHER BUSINESS THAT ALL DO THE SAME SHIT AS BIGPHARMA. IF YOU HAVE THE SHIT ON THEM GO TO FCA AND FUCK THEM YOU WILL DO THE RIGHT THING.

This happened when Chiron was it's own company. Why do you blame novartis for this?

OK so it was Chiron while not owned by Novartis. This only proves THEY ALL DO IT THEY & ARE ALL CROOKS. So what is the difference from which Co the gov't gets their money back and some? Novartis was already caught several times doing shit with their own drugs under the orders of their management to do the crime. the $422M fine included crime with Diovan and few others. So you see Novartis can be blamed 111% for this as if they did it themselves. What would be your solution? To forget and forgive the crime to Chiron? There is no statut of limitation here and if you know something Novartis did 10-20years ago and have proof of the crime, you can still get them. I have evidence and am waiting for the right moment to do it when we in our country get the FCA. Greetings from Basel.
