Novartis cutting 2,500 jobs globally-paper - Just announced

Complete BS: Look at the date idiot !
As I mentioned in the IPAD Post, this company is full of self absorbed lazy ass people. The mass hirings of the late 1990's through the mid 2000's killed this company.

BASEL, Switzerland (AP) — Novartis (NVS) will cut 2,500 jobs worldwide by 2010 in an attempt to save $1.6 billion, the drugmaker said Thursday, becoming the latest major pharmaceutical company to announce layoffs.
The company also offered a downbeat outlook for its U.S. pharmaceutical business in the first quarter due to generic competition for four drugs and lost sales on a discontinued product.

ZURICH, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Swiss drugmaker Novartis is in the process of cutting 2,500 jobs at sites across the world in a bid to control costs, daily Tages Anzeiger reported on Saturday.

Like many pharmaceutical companies, Novartis is starting to face generic competition, with its breast cancer drug Femara and its blood pressure medicine Diovan losing patent protection.

A spokesman for Novartis said the firm could not confirm that number.

Novartis' rival Roche has announced it would cut several thousand jobs in a cost-saving drive.

Last year they lied outright. Now they tell multiple media outlets but refuse to say a word to the employees. If they're gonna keep it secret that's one thing. But to let it leak to the media and then pretend nothing is happening is the ultimate insult to employees.

Ok point made, my bad, there is just so much bad incorrect info on this board. Thanks for the update I take it all back with the exception of the mass hirings, I still feel it killed our company.

Anyone know any pertinent information regarding job cuts? 2,500 worldwide and nothing to the employees in U.S.? This company is making it very difficult to stay loyal.

After the Managers meeting last week my FLM decided to have a conf call so that he could share all the "Fantastic Opportunities" that we will have in 1Q 2012.

Funny thing is that my FLM spent the better part, of our already useless conference call Reassuring us that the "Senior Leadership' put to rest any rumors surrounding lay-offs or reorgs.

"They continue to remain focused on our products"

What a joke

Are layoffs and cutbacks the sign of a growing and prosperous company?

If not, then it's time to find one.....look the grass is greener, just may need to find a "different" patch of it.
