Northern CA Team

I was wondering if I could get the opinions of current western territory reps and trolls about the Nor-Cal team. I am interested in a position above the grape vine and want to know what I will be getting into. I have noticed this job on several different job boards for a couple months, which clearly is main concern, followed by high turnover, and everyone bad mouthing the job. I am use to being an on-call rep and enjoy the hard sell. I believe the job is for a CSR position. Here are questions...

1.) What is the salary range and how are commissions structured?
2.) What is your opinion of the Nor-Cal team?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

I can't speak for NCal, but I'm a CSR in the Southeast Region. Don't pay attention to the bad-mouthers and idiots that don't even work here that get on CP and post rumors.

I was like you in that I came from being on-call and long tough hours. It has been a perfect transition for me. I've been here for nearly 2 years and have absolutely no intention of leaving. I'm more thankful for this job every day. I love this job and get was more personal satisfaction out of it than chasing ambulances, carrying hockey bags full of devices around and fussing with pricing 24/7. I used to spend half my life at FedEx and in Materials Management offices. Now I spend my time in surgery influencing my customers and making real sales calls at my accounts.

Our comp plan is very rewarding and at 100% to plan you should make at least somewhere between $200-250k. Salary, Commision, Quarterly Bonuses, Car/Phone Allowance, Benefits, ESPP. It's a great package. I trained with a couple reps up there in NCal that are still with the company and love it. There is a good deal of turnover with our company because a number of folks don't come from backgrounds like ours and don't know what it takes to run a territory. It sucks because they're great people but just not right for this business. Unfortunately a lot of them get on CP and talk trash but I would recommend us to anyone in the industry.

Good luck in your decisions

Good response; to the OP, there are CSR's in every hospital that you probably call on. Take them to lunch and talk to THEM about the job rather than listening to what is said on this board.

Thank you for your answers. I do understand that there are many people who have no clue how to run a territory and blame it on something else.

How long is the training program and what state is it in?

What exactly are the CSR reps selling? Are there disposables that are used in each case that drive the need to win more cases?

Is a CSR rep required at every surgery?

Are robot cases ever used in emergencies or just elective cases?

What volume is the average CSR rep doing per month? 15? 20? 25+?

Thanks!

I hope you read this before committing to anything. If you are interviewing with TB in N CA you should run as fast as possible. Even as a rep at Covidien she was told to look for another job because she could not work with anyone and her managers hated her! Her entire life is her job and is the worst micro manager I have ever seen. She is truly miserable and one of the most arrogant people I have ever met. As for the comment from the person in the Southeast, it is a different company out there. The Southeast is notoriously high performing and have great management The west is completely the opposite and have the worst performance in the company and the highest turnover and by far the worst management. I don't know you, but if you read all these boards, you'll notice everyone is saying the same thing. It's awful and will wreck your career path. The money is not what it used to be and is not worth it.

Yes, I meant did TB leave Intuitive as the NorCal CSM?

I want to apply for the associate Sacramento position but I don't want to work for someone like TB after reading the above quoted post. Thanks.

the southeast notoriously has a problems with management… there are full threads on it. HG, MH, CA… there’s a whole click of the se directors and managers people can’t stand to work for. I’ve heard there’s a lot of weird HR stuff that goes on on the west coast (cough cough AC). Still here but can’t stand how many of my coworkers and myself are treated. They will keep raising the quotas and replacing reps that are sick of their shit with associates that don’t have a clue and making us that stay train them. Just a heads up if you have any experience in med sales, you’ll be pissed when you get to cast and find out we hire people with no experience for associate roles.
