What is this talk about a car allowance?

Are they taking away our company cars? If so this is just one more bullshit decision that screws the sales force. Nothing says you're a bullshit company like not giving reps cars!!!!

Hoping this is a rumor

If not I can't wait to see how the idiots attempt to spin this as a positive: you can now have whatever car you want! Riiiiiiiigggghhhhttttt.

IF done right, this could be great ! Of course. We are talking about Purdue so all bets are off !

I know a rep that had an allowance and he went out and bought a Mercedes as his company car and he pays for it royally !

Another one, bought a used Honda Accord with 60K miles on it. He has driven that car for almost 250K miles with only routine maintenance and tires. After 8 mos car was paid for and for the last 16 mos he CLEARING $2000/mo just from car allowance. He takes 1K of that and set aside for new car fund but think on it - he saving for new car and has put away $16K for anything he needs to use it for. Very Smart !

I'd most likely buy a 4wd 4dr diesel PU truck. Good for about 350K miles !

Of course, the biggest concern would be : when is the next layoff coming ????????

Haven't we been through enough?

Are you guys freakin' idiots? You can come out way ahead with a car allowance as compared to a company car. Depending upon the allowance, you may even get a tax deduction at the end of the year. That will reduce your reported income by thousands at the end of the year, which means a bundle that you don't pay in income taxes. If you buy a dependable used car that does not cost a lot in maintenance, then you can really take advantage of the car allowance. If a new care every two years is a status symbol to you, then this deal will cost you. Swallow your pride and make some money!

When you look at the size of these territories it was probably in their best interest to do away with the company cars. Also easier to manage an allowance than company issued cars when restructures/realignments/expansions take place. They use these words interchangably here, I forget the meanings.

Yes, assuming they give a fair allowance. Now, looking at everything going on what makes you think that will happen? Wake up. They are only doing what is right for them, could care less about their pusher monkeys.

Like the idea in theory, BUT, who trusts that we are not going to have another layoff when this bogus expansion plan fails ??? One would be foolish to purchase a new car for their company car and then be stuck with a car payment when you get laid off !

Don't mean to be a naysayer, but I think I in this case, this is bad for reps.

I think Purdue will "cheap out" by paying less than industry standard for car allowance or the per mile reimbursement or both. I can even envision Purdue requiring a certain "type" of company car we would have to buy.

Purdue does not have The employees is mind re this. Think about this ! It's only been in the last 4 years that we were given the nice car plans that we have now. Before that, we paid $80 and then reimbursed the co for personal mile ages.
They just started reimbursing us for car washes in July !!!

Maybe one can make some $$$ on this, but I like the waynitmismright now, just fine !

I saw a rep with his DM a month ago. Couldn't believe it. The Rep was driving a rust bucket. And I mean rust bucket. I thought to mysel how interesting. Is this what Purdue wants? Because some of the reps will do this. I can just see it now. All to save a penny.

Damn straight I will do it. I will buy a car for around $1000 and make money off the allowance. We can't make it on bonus anymore. If they want to play this car allowance game, then I will play it all the way to the bank.

That's exactly what I'll do, then when others see what Purdue gives us to drive, it will continue to show how wonderful it is to be with Purdue. I bet my manager will also enjoy my hoopty
