I see the Technolas partnerships may help B+L in the surgical market

Bausch + Lomb and Technolas™ Perfect Vision Introduce VICTUS™ Femtosecond Laser Platform at 2011 ESCRS Meeting

Is this system going to help take share from Alcon (LensX) and Abbott Medical Optics (IntraLase)?

B&L is always a dollar short and a day late. Ziemer is already capturing the femtosecond market with their product and it is better tech. The top guys across the country already have it or are getting it. B&L will only take a very small market share in this segment.

Zeimer is ahead of Abbot Medical Optics (Intrlase), Alcon (LenSx), Carl Zeiss Meditec and Lens AR with their new femtosecond laser system. Is that correct? I thought the others were much further ahead.

What makes you think that?
Zeimer would account for maybe 10% - 15% of the installed base. It does a smooth flap but has higher complication rates than IntraLase - essentially its a laser microkeratome for guys who dont have the space, volume or $ for IntraLase or Wavelight.

As far as the Technolas (femtec) flapmaker capability goes - there hasnt been a lot of great feedback, I suspect they will have some refining to do.
