New Round of Layoffs?

its quiet because there are no plans for lay-offs-this year that is. According to Longstreet at the 1S meeting. Maybe next year though with respiratory group. I also heard that hospital will be getting it first, then womens health, then oncology, not necessarily in that order

Pipeline is there but approval and launch readiness will tell. Patents are another time factor. Worried on many fronts including respiratory, neuro, hospital from what I see in the field.

So who will launch the women's health products if they are axed?

Connection between ranking and next layoffs????????????

"Competencies" and "Differentiation" was not put in place for reasons stated (career pathways and awards determination), but rather to put a label on who goes and who stays. No other reason why management is SO obsessed with "the people multiplier" and PMP goals. Previous poster is right about no layoffs this year--the Schering severance package has to expire, and October data will be used in December for decision-making. So it's going to be a long, miserable year with field rides where you are dissected like you've never been dissected before. Just hang in there thinking, "this too shall pass...."

Yeah, and keep thinking "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" every day you're with this miserable company and sorry excuse for a job. I'm tired of having to think this way now for the past, oh let's say 13 years. What a waste of so much.

Competencies and differentiation....massive flaws in this entire process.

HAVE TO SAY I DON'T BELIEVE THIS NO LAYOFFS THIS YEAR) - THE $$ INVOLVED ARE NOT THAT LARGE AND THE MOVE IS TOO BLATANT....

I don't think we'll see any mass layoffs this year.
Smaller sized layoffs have typically come toward the end of the year. Prepare your family for the possible surprise around the holidays.

Merck is no longer closing Dutch R&D site, keeping 500 researchers.
Look for a smaller site in US to shut down to offset this number. Sad that a private company can't close it's own sites.

Hiring Freeze?

Is there a formal hiring freeze due to the news of the merger with Inspire? For How long?

Will these companies merge their sales forces?

Will managers and reps in the ophthalmic devision be consolidated? Time Frame?

Or will Inspire just be considered a division of Merck?

Inspire Pharmaceuticals will be incorporated into Merck. The name will be changed from Inspire to Demoralize.
