New reps make more than reps presently employed

I am thinking of coming over from another company. The company I work for now hired new reps for more money than current reps with company -including people here with over 5 years with the company

My asshole DM said , “you agreed to that salary “ however the new reps are coming in for 10k more with less experience! I am quitting soon. is this illegal?
has anyone sued for this. This is not at this company.
Or I’d my DM a scum bag who will not back his reps. In addition, he the rudest person I have ever interacted with

I hear your concern and its going on here as well. We are hearing that all the new folks coming over here are making well above what those of us are making, who have already been here for a few years. If you know or have worked for one of the new managers that just came here, you'll be able to pull the same ace card that is being used at your current company. Nepotism is alive and well here at Neurocrine.

10k isn’t even worth making a move for, that’s chump change. If your gonna make a move for financial reasons, make it worth your while and get a 20%+ increase.

now if your manager sucks and you want to come over and make a bit more $$$ that’s fine as well. Just make sure you are switching companies for the right reason. Because you could be just jumping from one frying pan into another.

So if I come here and I will admit my offer is in the 140's I will now be forced to "play the game"? I am still afraid I might be in a position of breaking even since there is no company car benefit.

You know i have heard some people coming to Neurocrine in this recent hiring group being paid a lot more then normal. I dont know if it is true or not. But it seems odd that more then one is saying they are getting paid higher then normal. Now, they did not say they are getting paid $190k base. But they are at $165k and the other is at $170k. Both have been in the industry a long time and have sold in the Neuro space for awhile. Only people at Neurocrine know what is going on. I will say this though, no matter what anyone posts on this website you will have people saying "impossible" or "I told you so".

All I can say is neither of my friends came from teva, which seems to be a hot subject here. I am not going to say which company they did come from because I do not want to get anyone in trouble.

But a lot of people here also need to remember the cost of cars has gone up a lot in the last few years and if no company car is offered then there needs to be some give by the company to get reps. Average salaries are going up, the cost of even a used care now is around 30-37k depending on what you get.

This means I would not be surprised if the company is paying reps more to come on board since you have to look at costs of a vehicle, inflation (cost of living), it being a employee market right now for jobs, etc.

Not surprised by experienced reps being hired at salaries higher then the average.

Great points made but it still isn't fair to those of us that have been here for a few years. With the measly yearly increases we have gotten, it will still be very unbalanced for those of us making less doing the same job. My guess is that this will create a lot of angst and cause team dissention.

I'm not saying it is fair but companies need to grow and wages have increase a lot in the last 2 years. Especially in the last couple of months as the market has become very competitive for workers. All I can say is if you do not like hearing that new hires are coming in at $165, $170 or even $190, then you have to go out and test the market like the new hires did. If Neurocrine wants to keep you they will pay you, they will match whatever offer you got from another company. If not, you leave for better pay and maybe a company car. This is how it works in a market where employees have more power then companies. I am not saying new hires being paid more are better. They shopped around and worked the current situation to their advantage.

Not many current employees or employees that have been with the company for a while will like to hear, but this is how it works in a market that favors employees. Those that have been with a company for awhile will not mind the others getting higher pay because they are happy where they are and do not want to start over with a new company. So while some workers will be upset over this, nothing keeps them from getting paid more elsewhere. They just have to figure out what they actually want and will go after it.

Alright folks, enough with the salary comparisons here at Neurocrine. We all know there is a ton of disparity at this place and unfortunately its who you are hired by and how badly they want you here (previous relationships help as well - nepotism). Its nobody's business what I make and I for one will surely not be discussing that, no matter how many years I've been in pharma, let alone here at Neurocrine.

Sad that Neurocrine under pays the sales force. It’s a job for sure if someone was recently down sized but if you’re currently employed and relatively happy, you’re best saying put.

Disclaimers: 1) Not in sales, 2) no longer with NBI

Using logic, past experiences with functional companies, or independent salary survey data (not GD) will prevent you from accepting the reality of comp decisions you're discussing. It's entirely possible (and probable) comp is disconnected from expectations you've used previously.

To the OP, I'm sorry, but have you been living under a rock? This happens everywhere! There's no discrimination against a certain group, so what in the hell are you goin to sue them over?
My friend came in to LTC at 160k with no long term care experience whatsoever and does not even live in a major city. I have another that came over around 150k in neuro. Car allowances are both around $600 which a damn joke.

Uh, no one said anything about discrimination or suing. In that post you were talking about. So, kinda funny you say they live under a rock when you are making things up and assuming everything else. Lol!

Uh, said OP dumbass - read the first post. Replied directly to other post to add to confirmed higher salaries. Sorry that it was too difficult for your tiny brain to follow. Next time I’ll reply to each separately and use smaller words for you.

Again, where did the OP talk about discrimination or lawsuits being filed? All he said was he left a good gig to come here and is concerned. If things are true is it legal. You added assumptions and then started calling people names. After reading these posts and hearing you, I think this company is messed up. You are doing a bad job of damage control

Salary compression happens for a variety of reasons. Here it's common because there's more money than brains, and throwing money at "issues" is how things get done. Anyone worth what's being paid will quickly be too disgusted to stay. Those that could never earn that much at a competently run company will abandon what few moral fibers they ever had in order to perpetuate their "once in a lifetime opportunity. Good luck dealing with those folks!
