New Merck

Why are all the SP folks getting lay off notices? This was suppose to be a "reverse merger". Merck had nothing in the pipeline compared to SP, they needed SP. What a mess!

former SP here, laid off, with so many other SPers just after the merger.

Are layoff notices going out already??

Is SP getting hit hard - again?

SP will be eliminated. New Merck will be old Merck. SP had a better R&D, Merck had a better everything else. That really does not matter because they are moving all the SP out. Merger should never have happened.

What was wrong was all the hypocrisy of the EC. It should have spelled what it was - an acquisition. Merck buys out SP because Merck has more cash and has been better managed except for pathetic MRL. They pulled the farce of the "reverse acquisition" because of Remicade and that ended up rocking the boat way too much for what it's worth. They should have just bought SP, fired all SPers, and created positions and interviewed and recruited for them the old Merck way. The overall impact on Merck would have been much less.

Who had better marketing or salespeople is not important. Merck had a lot more money. That is why all of the senior leadership of the new company was Merck. SP got acquired.

The reverse merger only happened so Merck can retain some rights to Remicade. Remember the corporation is Shering Corporation but the name of the company is Merck.

It was Merck that was acquiring us, so their managment got to stay and SP was left out in the cold. Fast Freddy net his 150M and the rest of the company is finally being thrown out.

It is one thing to downsize to make the company more stable of the future, it is another to downsize and get rid of all the talent.

Merck = Pfizer: they both can't produce their own drugs anymore. The brains have been effectivly eliminated and filled with incompotence.

Better sales dept, you got to be kidding right?? Your sales people are not even called sales people, being in sales for Merck is like working for the post office. At least at SP, you had to sell to keep your job and frankly most did.

Merck, Schmerck....who cares anymore. After the merger I was retained, and had to adjust to this bureaucratic, wasteful and unproductive company. At this age (over 50), it's nothing but a paycheck for me. I still think of myself as a Schering rep, and continue to act as such as much as possible. Schering was all about selling, and it was fun, especially before Hassan. So glad I didn't have to be a Merck rep all these years, and that retirement (or a layoff) is around the corner for me. Once I am out of here, I will erase all that had to do with Merck from my memory, and will only look back fondly on the glory days of Schering.

I had the priviledge of working for Merck and for Schering. Schering was the best before Hassan evern though you brought the company around from the dumps, only to sell it to Merck. I worked with a great group of people at Schering, the sales reps were absolutely the best. I was sad to hear the news of the so-called reverse merger. I knew then that nothing would be the same. Monster Merck was takin over!

After 15 years with Merck there is no way I can erase my experience from memory. Merck treats everyone the same........like S&#T!
