because Abbott is buying up domain names:

Abbott Scoops Up Domain Names: GonzalezSucks.us
By Ed Silverman // February 29th, 2012 // 7:52 am

Registering domain names is nothing new in corporate America. The practice is done all the time to protect intellectual property, stymie rivals from grabbing a potentially useful name and thwart individuals from creating unwanted havoc.

And so, as Abbott Laboratories prepares for its ballyhooed split into a so-called research-based pharma biz and another that will focus on devices, diagnostics and nutritionals (read the back story here), domain names are being snatched up. A recent emphasis, however, is on protecting the name Richard Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, you may recall, is currently executive vp of global pharmaceuticals, but will become chairman and ceo of the forthcoming pharma biz, while Abbott ceo Miles White will head what will be called medical products. To prepare, Abbott earlier this week registered at least two dozen domain names related to Gonzalez, according to DomainNameWire.

Some domain names are innocuous, such as RichardAGonzales.com, but others are clearly designed to fend off mischief makers. For instance, there is RichardGonzalezsucks.us, which you can see was registered by Abbott if you look here. You know you have reached a rarified station in life when your employer buys up a domain name that suggests you suck.

Abbott, by the way, used Mark Monitor’s DNStination entity to register the domains in secret, the site writes, However, the drug and device maker also registered the .us version of the names, and whois privacy can not be used to shield registration info. As a result, you can see that the .us whois records show Abbott registered the domains (look here).

Not true. they are still trying to decide, from a final list of 5 names... the trademarking rumor is bs...

You apparently did not listen at the NSM when Carlos said they were deciding now between 2 names, and to stay tuned within the next week or two. So, it's two names not five. Second, that info above is from a writer's story, no bs. Try to buy up those domain names and see if they're bs.

How about "MeBio Corp", just so everyone understands that we are truly a biotech company in every sense of the word, and we have the name and business cards to prove it.

Speaking of business cards, does anyone want to guess how long it will be after the name change and the split from Abbott it will be before new business cards come? With layoffs coming soon after the split (I think), why bother to print cards for all the people that will be laid off?

Just cross off the "Abbott" and "A promise for life" and write in "MeBio Corp" for a few months. Nothing shows class like a home-made business card with a new company.
