My HR Business Partner violated confidentiality.

I have had various issues with my manager who has a reputation of conflict with direct reports. I got in contact with my HR business partner for advice on how to deal with this. Without any consultation the HR partner went directly to my manager and of course the relationship now is as worse at it could be.

I don't know if this is an exception but I lost complete faith in Shire human resources.

Ummmmm.....you originally had faith in them?? If this is true- go to a shrink. If not, read on...

I hope your complaint about your manager to HR had to deal with "protected status"- race, religion, sex, disability, etc.
If not- you will be managed out by the end of the year. Totally legal.
Even if it was a protected status violation: Don't EVER contact HR with a "concern" unless it is in writing, has to do with blatant violations of the FEDERAL law (being an asshole is NOT illegal), AND it is a consistent pattern of ILLEGAL behavior witnessed and documented by MANY. And IF your situation happens to hit all 3 of those points- go to an attorney first before you do anything.

how do you know your HR partner went directly to your manager? how do you know that your HR partner did not go to your manager's manager to try and help? how do you know that your HR partner did not try to coach your manager, or get both sides of the story? my experience with HR has been very positive at shire and it seems that you may be blaming the wrong party here.

I’m not the original poster here but as an RBD I can tell you anytime anyone calls HR about an individual, HR reaches out to that individual. If you think there is confidentiality, there is not. HR is here to protect Shire against lawsuits.

They didn’t do any of that. Sorry to say, you may be toast. HR is not your friend. Don’t believe in the “code”. It doesn’t exist. The previous poster is right, unless they violate the law, they can do whatever they want.
