"...[Delta Airlines] Workers in the U.S. with 10 years of service whose age and service total at least 55 years are eligible for the retirement offers while employees with five years of service can take a buyout..."

Just as when Delta and US Air merged the CEO said that no major cuts likely.

The vexing question is, can corporate america run without CEO and Charredman of the company.

How well could the organization operate without such figurehead? I know that individual contribution could increase -- so says my hahwod ph.d. in consumer psychometrics studies.

Airline crew jobs were one of the most coveted jobs when the industry started, until mid 1980s. After Reagonomics, real competition stopped and smaller regional companies became associate, and then fully owned by larger airlines. Bush voodoo economics cause larger companies first to fail, then get rescued, then fail, then merge, then fail third time.

Now, a 10 yoe airline crew make around 48K; pilots ~80K. Before 1980 it used to be 75K for air host|ess and 110K for pilot. Times have really changed.

Lilly future employees will be making same precarious saga, as per employee salary will drop from mid 80s to mid40s in next 5 years.

Mid 40s? I doubt that I could live on only $40 million a year.
