Here is what the folks that run Merck obviously are too out of touch to understand:
Sure, you may need to reduce the sales force, but the way you go about it is everything. Why Merck insists on being so ugly about it is beyond me. What this does is lower morale to a point, that no one really cares how they represent the company anymore. Sure, a few of the most dedicated Kool Aiders will still be rah rah, despite being flogged constantly, but most reps just stop giving a hoot...
Either Merck consciously declares war on their reps by creating a toxic environment of fear and loathing, (and misery) or they are just too clueless to understand that they are sinking the company further and further into the gutter...
Both scenarios show how very bad Merck is run....
