Merck ranks 20th reputation of pharma

<

This company is run by pure scum. In reality, it isn't even in the top 50, let alone the top 20. Only the design of the poll placed it in the top 20. This is a horribly managed company that has delivered absolutely nothing to the field of medicine over the last twenty years. It has killed and harmed many thousands, though (Vioxx and Gardisil alone).

Prime example of LW hyperbole with no facts. Emotional BS only!!!

When Merck management decided to merge and go on a cutting-to-the-bome frenzy to save the company after the merger debacle, one of the unintended consequences was that they got rid of 90% plus of their institutional memories from Scheering and Merck. And, kept all the assholes and the nastiest of their lawyers, including the CEO. They also kept the "Black List" originally developed at Scheering.

The end result was a culture that was all "Hunger Games" and only the meanest assholes survived the carnage. The Old Merck was summarily executed and it became all about acquiring intellectual properties at the cheapest possible price and cut employee salaries in half.

I know this from someone who took part in the concerted downsizing effort aimed at all employees that fell within the "Older Worker Pension Protection Act" This person made very clear that it was all about cutting cost and reducing and eliminating as much of their pension obligations as possible. She was also let go when she was no longer needed.

And, in case you are wondering why nobody has sued Merck for this illegal activities is because anyone who received severance had to sign an ironclad agreement and give all possible right to ever sue Merck. If you didn't sign you would not get a nickel.

This narrative easily explain the unrelenting fear and chaos that the company is known for now.

100% spot on post...only the most pathological sociopaths thrive at Merck...their behavior is rewarded...As someone else said, "Merck is a bad place for good souls..." Toxic company.

Exactly. This company is full of Thomas Lyon III's. This director exemplifies "the most pathological sociopaths" in Merck you speak of. After the VIOXX debacle, all those rep crabs in the USHH barrel were poured in every other part of the company's sales force and led by these egocentric, cutthroat whack jobs in management who have no moral compass or shred of humanity whatsoever .
