Merck Animal Health Question

Lost my husband 6 months ago is a car accident and need to get back in the field. I would be grateful for any sincere replies regarding this division as there is an opening in my town. I'm worried the job doesn't pay too much. Does anyone have an idea of range? Your comments on how you are treated and managed and anything else would be so appreciated.
Sincere thank you

animal health is doing great right now. salaries won't ever be as high as on the human side, but you'll be more than comfortable. good organization, you should definitely look into it.

Word of warning: Momma Merck has never been loyal to Animal Health. Merck Research Labs popped out Ivermectin and the company made mucho bucks off of Heartgard, but in 1997 it merged its animal health unit with the one from Sanofi into a new joint-venture called "Merial". Many Merck employees were not happy being involuntarily sold off from the company.

Sanofi then bought out the whole Merial JV and Merck was temporarily out of the animal health business. They got back into the business when Merck acquired Intervet through the acquisition of Schering-Plough (or technically, SP acquired Merck, Merck disappeared for a brief instant, and then SP changed its name to "Merck", all so they could retain profits that they were sharing with J&J as long as Schering-Plough was never bought by another company - pretty sneaky).
An internet search of "Merck animal health business" will give you lots of hits for recent bolt-on acquisitions of little veterinary companies by Merck. Can't tell you if that's good or bad - just warning you that the situation is always fluid.
