Any info on the above position? What are the challenges, responsibilities, growth opportunities, pros and cons etc? Also anyone with any experience interviewing for this position?

Thanks

nothing like managers managing managers and having multiple douchebag DMs in your territory. EPs love the DM ride alongs especially when they come in and could never cover a case if they had to and then pressure docs for business. keep on hiring big blue

Gotta love the DMs that think that docs actually want to see them.

Hey rep - schedule a dinner with Dr. So and So - i'm gunna be in town, and need to talk to him and tell him we need him to pick it up.

SO VERY TRUE AND SO VERY PITIFUL! WE COULD INCREASE OUR MARGINS SIGNIFICANTLY IF WE WOULD JUST ELIMINATE MUCH OF THE "MANAGER FAT"

It's surprising this position has suevived all of the rif's. This is such a waste of a headcount

Could not agree more...its hard to believe that Omar has been happy to put actual Sales Reps to the sword, while these guys manage to escape the same fate.

If any of these guys had ever carried the bag before, I am certain they look at themselves in the mirror and realize they are simply drawing a paycheck.

Those without field experience may be inclined to crowbar their way into meetings and functions in an effort to "contribute" in an effort to make sense of their station....but there's nothing more sad than the suit popping in for a pointless and awkward discussion in the hallway.

The smart ones should heed this advice....forget talking to the docs....get cozy with the administration. These guys don't only speak your BS language, but they also hold the keys to the Kingdom moving forward in this industry. Will this pit you up against some other functionary in the MDT Politburo? Probably...but you are in a position to make friends with the right people inside the hospital, whereas a National Account Manager may be out of state and just another voice on the phone.

This will get you out of the Field Force's hair...they hate you and always will.

How did this go from DSM's to DM's??? Sounds like a bunch of hateful reps thinking the world evolves around them. Wake up and understand this will become a service based industry utilizing remote technology. Device deals will be made at a National level eliminating sales reps one-by-one...look around you..it's happening now!!!!!

Ockham's Razor. Why would Omar be happy to axe a rep while DSM's survive? The simple answer should scare the sales rep. The DSM position was created in advance, knowing it would be a hellishly difficult position at the time. DSM role will almost always conflict with the sales reps. How can it not when the sales reps don't answer to them? It will ultimately be the only front-line field management role. DM's won't be in the field, more likely as administrative liaison's and contract coordinators. Last poster hit a lot of great points. One by one, the reps will disappear. Contracts will rule. If you're a rep and contract talks occur without your knowledge, well, do the math. Keep telling yourself they need you. The rep and cs position have both become much more of a technician's role. And that's funny with some of the sales reps with little technical ability. The smart reps and those who actually maintain some md influence are just extending this ride as long as they can. It's all about margins and that means contracts coupled with controlled costs, ie DSM's and CS's.
