I'm sure neither is as 'pure' as our 'natural state' but - the fact is, society needs/wants an escape substance - Alduous Huxley called it, 'Soma'.
For that purpose, this stands out:
Drinking too much alcohol can quickly kill a person. The inability to metabolize alcohol as quickly as it is consumed can lead to a buildup of alcohol in the brain that shuts down areas necessary for survival, such as those involved with heartbeat and respiration. "You can die binge-drinking five minutes after you've been exposed to alcohol. That isn't going to happen with marijuana," said Ruben Baler, a health scientist at the National Institute on Drug Abuse. "The impact of marijuana use is much subtler. Marijuana affects the cardiovascular system, increasing heart rate and blood pressure, but a person can't faally overdose on pot like they can with alcohol, Baler said.
For these reasons alone, I feel it more beneficial to make Marijuana legal and restrict alcohol more - even though I use more alcohol than Marijuana.
I use both responsibly - If I had to choose between the two, it would be Marijuana by far - The medical and recreational benefits have helped me greatly over the years. I have seen the devastation that alcohol can bring to friends families and co-workers.
I don't do either on an everyday basis. My go to was alcohol primarily because I was raised in that culture and it was easily attainable and socially acceptable to have a beer or cocktail after work. However, I think without question, it is the more dangerous of the two and unquestionably a gateway drug. Stopping for a beer or a drink after work is deeply imbedded in our culture. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.
One thing for sure - after growing our first and learning to dry and cure it, it's one hell of a lot less expensive than alcohol.

Yes, thank you but I already know the definition of what a gateway drug is.(maybe you should use a search to learn what the definition of "irony" really is) But anyway, I'll ask once again, as I always have to with you, what is alcohol an "unquestionably a gateway drug" to?

When I could not even choke down soup, pot was the only thing that allowed me to eat, and I mean eat anything at all and keep it down. I had pills (yeah, joke there) and nothing worked. I would have died had pot not helped give me back my appetite. Other than that, I would use it a few times a week if it were legal to ease stress and anxiety.

The irony of the situation is - The super bowl is being played by teams from the 2 states that legalized pot. However, pot is illegal in the state where the game is being played.
If that's too much of a stretch for you - just remember, this is the playground not an English test that's being graded. Maybe you should loosen up a little.
