Lost the love for distribution?

Curious to know if the Elanco reps are aware of the new commission plan for distribution. Appears to be about a 65% pay cut. I understand the company is struggling but.....

As a distribution TM For a national I am feeling the hit across the board as well and I.T sucks! Curious to know however if the average tm knows how they are paid by their own company? In reality that is who pays us not our manufacturer partners.

Our leadership has taken over compensation models and dictating what manufacturers can and can’t do (for example spiffs and commisionmsions on sales directly paid by the manufacturer).

Before blaming your manufacturer partners (you’ll prob soon realize not just The big boys dong this) you may want to look at how your own company pays you...For me it was telling where my haircut really came from, yes some from how our partners pay the company but more on what my company now places in my value vs their name.

Don’t get me wrong I do agree if our manufacturer partners valued us more it would lead to a better paycheck in the end when it seems everyone is pinching pennies and we are the first place hit by them all.

Well stated. We are being devalued by our own companies so why would we expect less from our mfg “partners”. Distribution is on a downward spiral and I forsee a very bleak future ahead, especially for other reps like me in our early 30’s. National accounts, corporate accounts, commission cuts, margins dropping, etc., etc.

Years of being order takers has finally caught up.

Congrats. You earned it.

While I would love to react to this comment with an equally negative or threatening response, I will not.

I am NOT an order taker and know my Elanco rep doesn’t view me as such. However, I also recognize that there a far more of us who are than aren’t these days . This “order taker” mentality is also what has lead us to the position we are in today of it being a discount driven game.

Also, I would like to add that of the multiple manufacturers I work with this can be said toward a lot of them as well. They blow in drop off lunch or samples and leave. No selling skills, no consultative value and really no value to their customer or companies.

The whole industry is changing and for the worse, lots of lazy check collectors with no ethics.

While I would agree that there are order takers out there, I disagree that all distributor reps are that way. I actually have a substantial dollar volume in my territory and it’s a rare occasion when I write an order. I know it’s exactly the same with other distributor reps I interact with. I’ve only been in distribution for a few years but I know there are good and bad mfg reps also. You certainly can’t blame distribution, solely, for Elanco’s recent woes and not point the finger at their reps and their management.
