Long Island Newsday

What a nice article about doctors on Long Island getting paid by pharmaceutical companies to get drugs on hospital formularies. Of course it is another article with Novartis being front and center. They name the doctors with their pictures and also mentions a Rep and her linkedin resume. Novartis settle the whistleblower lawsuit because it will be mentioned in every Newsday article and these doctors and reps have been questioned by the government. Admit you were wrong and put an end to it.

Novartis at this point is going to have to write a check to the government. They are at a point where they have no choice and to avoid trial. These doctors are going to have to realize they too agreed to accept speaking engagements other than reps pushing their drugs.
So, "Dr., based on the check we've provided you, will you prescribe this drug for your next 10 patients?". "Dr., I'll follow up with you next time I come in to set up the next Speaker program. What dates did you have in mind?" "I'll ask my manager if he can reload my budget spending for you as well."

the article in question:

"Databases posted on the websites of various drugmakers -- including pharmaceutical giants Merck, Novartis and Pfizer -- list the payments.
...
Other companies that have paid Nizza, Kaell and Fishberger include Eli Lilly, Forest Laboratories and AstraZeneca."

to be fair, this is not just a novartis issue.

anyone with half a brain knows how "business" in the states works.

the real issue is the architecture and operating mode of the american healthcare system, its politicians, its citizens, its hospitals, its doctors, its insurance providers, and the pharma/medical device companies. "the system" breeds the type of behavior discussed in the article.

unless you change the "the system", you will be stuck reading these types of articles over and over again.

Other companies aren't in & out of court every other day & in possible violation of the CIA!
Why do you think so much of this area was 'white'd out' ?
Oh & for the record MOST businesses in all states, including NY, works (here's a word unfamiliar to most novartion execs & mgmnt) ...wait for it .....ETHICALLY

Novartis is crooked and it is widely known that paying fines to get up and sometimes cross the line, is the "cost of doing business". Just ask the financial industry.

So, in a way, it is true that this is business as usual. But what is ENTIRELY true is that changing the US system of Corp supported welfare is also required. US Pharma is already the most regulated industry in world history - and we pay 100% more for the same drugs as the rest of the world and we get shit for it. We don't get more new drugs, that is a proven fact. We don't get better health care outcomes and that is a proven fact.

Obamascare is just putting the breaks on that. No eliminating it but modulating it as that is what Pharma negotiated. Sunshine laws, the shunning of academia of paid medical mouthpieces / propagandists is just a start. This isn't the end of the beginning but the beginning of the end. The ones to get the "end of the shaft" first are you Reps and marketing people.

hahahahahaaha!

Of course the management and executives condoned every bit of ethical behavior. You just have to look and ask the question why is the first line manager still employed by Novartis? Most of the area was whited out but look at who was retained even after they were whited out. In the long run the people that were let go are better for it. If the whistleblower suit actually goes to trial it is going to be in the remaining people's backyard and in Newsday over and over again.

So Nofartus pays these fines with money that they saved by cutting sales Rep's jobs- niiiice.

no business can claim high ethical standards when it subordinates the welfare of human beings to the accumulation of virtual money.

Listen I get the practice is a tad shady, but diovan was a 4 billion dollar drug that everyone used. Why would it be unethical to recommend it for formulary addition? Some crappy drugs I get it but most doctors aren't putting bad drugs on formulary for money, it would kill their patients. This article and thread are crap.

no one is arguing with your line of reasoning. at least not me.

the points is:

as an ethical medical professional, you should not take any money from a pharma company as a "thank you" or "consulting fee" for recommending a drug for formulary addition.

duh!

So after reading all of this and realizing that the company has been corrupt for so long, wtf are y'all still doing here??? Unless you're near retirement and think you can make it (highly doubtful), go out and get a REAL JOB.

You may have to take pay cut since you're way overpaid now and give up the car, but hey, when you come home at the end of the day you can at least look at yourself in the mirror and have some self respect. What you currently see in the mirror is a fantasy which will be ending sooner than you think.

100% agree. I think most lack confidence in their abilities. Lazy.

Funny how they "white spaced" an area that had 30 or so president club awards starting from DP or perhaps prior.
How are those remaining 'super' star uber executive master club bedrock cornerstone reps/dm performing the last few years up & until today?
Setting the world ablaze with record patch sales ?

If nothing else they offer a good laugh reading their self aggrandizing linkedin profiles
