If you have not already done so I would strongly recommend going to Linkedin and creating a profile. You would be surprised at how many big time Novartians are there and I mean the guys from East Hanoi, Dan the man and so on. It's probably the best form of networking there is and a couple of months ago I was contacted via Linkedin for a job, told a friend about it and she was hired this past week.

The outplacement service that Novartis will send you to will recommend Linkedin as one of the first things to do. DO IT.

Networking is the best way to go about finding a job my friends. People who know you are going to move you to the head of the line whereas sending out resumes online might work, the chances in my opinion are less, substantially less.

Hang in there my friends and remember......

Never let the bastards get you down.

Linkedin will suck for you guys and gals. Everyone knows anyone from Novartis is a suck worker. You guys are LinkedOUT.
Here is what you need to do. Go to your goofy neighbors house, or Walmart or where ever, buy a gun and shoot yourself in the head, twice. Once for reading this stupid post and one to save yourself the shame you will develop from not getting another job because you worked for a crap company.

Good luck getting both shots off, let us know how it worked out.

rtbkpl are you a chick or whats your deal??

To post something like this shows a true personality disorder. You need to get help because your life must be a mess. You belong in sewage where nobody has to listen or read your psychopathic idiosyncracies. Karma is very much real and remember when you talk with this verbage your life is headed for disaster if it isn't already. Now go away!

I am a former Novartian, a rep who still cares about people and if I can say or do something which might help someone that I will do so. I would not need to buy a gun my friend, I have one (many) of my own nearby and the skill and mentality to use it in the proper situation.

Your comments indicate that you have a defeatist attitude. YOU are defeated before the game starts. For the record I found another job in the device world after 24 years in pharma and at over 60 years of age. I hope that a sliver of the advice that I give out might be the impetus which would put someone over the hump and help them land a job. This would include you.

You have a great day my friend and remember.....

Seems life can easily turn yours around. You need to seek help before you hurt yourself. Perhaps your family should save you too in desperate times.

In addition, go to church and seek strength, because we will not pray for you.

And if your over 55 like me watch how much interest people have in you ZERO! Rutgers/Boston College did a study of people over 50 that lose their jobs, 76% never find another job period. Don't believe me look it up, it was also on CBS Sunday morning show about 6 months ago. People over 40 it's 50% that never find another job.

This guy is correct in what he is saying. I am over 55 and had over 25 years with Novartis. I was let go in the last round of layoffs. Every time I go on an interview I have to defend how much I was making in salary. The 7 interviews that I have been on have all told me that they went with another candidate because they met the salary expectations. I was willing to take less money but they think that I will leave them for more money after they invest in all the training. I have even had them tell me in the interview that I am over qualified. I even asked the interviewer does the success I have had work against me and of course they say no. My advise is starting to be don't stay in one place to long, don't make too much money and don't get old. I keep trying.

Tell the prospective employer you only made 60k per year, you were a Sales Representative
(not Senior or Executive), your ratings were always "2", and that you had no National Sales Awards because managed care contracting for your area dampered growth vs. competitive "same disease state" drugs, for which you had no control.

I was in the Feb 2011 "displacement/defacement" as well. Over 50, 11 interviews, 6 flights out of town, always "between me and another individual", and recruiter shares, they went with the other due to the fact that my high salary and experience would scare the employer to think that I would jump as soon as a better opportunity/offer came around and that I would be looking to bolster my self. Hell, they are right!. Problem is, there are too many reps laid off with very little jobs and as Marie in HR clearly stated at one time, "There are many out there that would love to have a reps job...they are expendable...if your reps want to quit, tell them "go ahead and do so", there are many that would cherish the job and a replacement would be easy to find. So, there you have it. Be humble when interviewing and realize with as many out of work, with few to little job openings, don't ask for too much because someone else is willing to work for much less.
