Interesting take from the Cardionet page.. sounds like LE will have his hands full with this one.. "I have several inside connections in Highmark; turns out that Cardionet was so enmeshed in CMS that there is an internal investigation at Highmark to find out who authorized so many fraudulently billed codes in the first place. The situation was explained to me as such: CN (knowingly) and associated physician client groups (unknowningly, as advised by CN sales reps) billed plenty of fraudulent claims using the wrong billing codes. Their investigation dates all the way back to 2007 (year CPT codes 93228-93229 began - NO COINCIDENCE), but CMS' system should have caught these codes and flagged them for denial. However, a group on the inside of CMS authorized payments. It was further intimated that Lifewatch and eCardio had a good portion of their bad claims authorized as well as to not tip off a some favortism, but Cardionet had the bulk of all bad claims authorized. That is why this investigation is taking so long, its not just against CN, Lifewatch and eCardio, but CMS Highmark as well....."
