The severance package will state how many weeks of pay and healthcare (medical, dental & vision may or may NOT be included) are paid.

HOWEVER, from the Hunger Games of yester years (say >=8yrs), people actually got FAR MORE weeks of medical, than they were supposed to! Everyone speculates this is probably because healthcare is purchased in bulk, before the start of the coverage year. The oppressive masters negotiate healthcare coverage for the servants in Q4 of the previous year, that will take effect for all of the following years. So Q4-2022 contract is negotiated and signed, covering all of 2023. If you get laid off at any point in 2023, its possible you may get all of 2023 paid for by these bastards!

This is what happened to the early Hunger Game tributes way way way back. These early tributes reported getting a little more or a little less than a year, depending on when they were laid off. They all eventually did get a notice from Horizon BlueCross BlueShield of New Jersey, notifiying them that their oppressive masters were ending their insurance on a specified date. The letter also lists what cobra rates would cost them, if they choose to continue. When this happened, they then opted to start insurance with their current employer; these tributes saved A LOT of money! A small consolation prize from their previous employers.

If you are the primary insurance for your family/domestic partner, and your spouse/domestic partner also works and can get insurance through their employer, wait until your COBRA notice comes. Loss of insurance from spouse/domestic partner, is a life qualifying event that allows the spouse/partner to start medical insurance through their employer.

This is the way.
