LabCorp-Westcliff

Does anyone know how Westcliff is faring since LabCorp bought them?
Have they been able to hold onto their business?

They have gone from 10k + Reqs. a night to the mid to low 8k Reqs.
Top saleman have left quite a bit of other people have gone too.
My friend who works in Technical said that the Processing Dept. has
really declined in service, the turnaround time is getting worse and mistakes are rising.
Everybody is annoyed because now they have to clock in and out for breaks and have to take a break or lunch every two hours! How ridiculous is that... very funny since Westcliff was very customer service oriented...now you can almost imagine this.... (ring-ring) "Good afternoon, thank you for calling Labwest Inc. my name is ......, how may I be of service?"
I'm sorry Doctor, I will have to return your call in 10 minutes, I need to go now before I'm late clocking out buh bye...! (lol) wow.....this policy alone would make me want to quit !
So as far as holding on to their business....no. They are definately on the decrease.
And then with Rick Nicholson opening his new Lab somewhere in Irvine I hear, I'm sure Labwest will be losing all of Newport and Fashion Island fairly soon.
I predict that Labcorp will close the doors to Labwest by this time next year, if not sooner!

Well to clarify a few things. The reqs were averaging about 9,500 before Westcliff went into bankruptcy, but it is true it's about 8,500 to 8,000 a night now. It could be because LabWest is losing clients, but it could also be because those reqs are just being routed to San Diego now and LabWest doesn't even see these reqs. Doctors are given the choice to request tests from LabWest or LabCorp, so many doctors are just deciding to order the LabCorp test instead.

The Graveyard processing dept is short around 7 people so they can't get the work out as fast as before, but even with that technical has been able to have a good TAT so it's no big deal. It is true that people are annoyed about clocking in even for breaks. However, they can go to their 10 minute break any time between the first half and second half of their shift so they wouldn't be telling doctors that they have to go to break.

As far as closing down, it's not going to happen. They invested and paid so much money in the lab and to make Westcliff employees LabCorp employees. They're working on getting a 10 year lease with the owner of the building, and looking to move US Labs in Irvine to the LabWest building in the next few years to save on rent.

Once the FTC is done though, I expect LabCorp to move several tests to San Diego and layoff the duplication in departments. Also, they will possibly get rid of a lot of management to cut the expenses and streamline the process. Many top people are already leaving and more to come...Now that's the real deal of what's going on.

And the rest of us care because..........why?

Former director of Westcliff HR is gone. Cut those expenses keep them coming slowly but surely. Supposedly, a lot of the people leaving are moving to the new Nicholson lab in Irvine. Fat chance that lab will lift off.

It's already started its liftoff in Newport. Irvine comes later.

Should be easy pickings for Rick Nicholson...The former Westcliff, now Labwest Director's, have no clue what they are doing...Heard they just put a 26 year old girl in charge of Sales...LMAO..also heard their Req count is dropping like hot potatoes....Won't be long until Labcorp bails on that disaster...

You're acting as if it's Nicholson's lab vs LabWest out there. The reality is, Nicholson's lab is just another starter up lab amongst the many small independent labs in CA. The reality is also that LabWest is still the third largest "independent" lab in CA next to Quest and LabCorp, until the FTC completes its review. I put that in quotations because LabCorp finances LabWest and all their employees are now LabCorp employees so it's hard to call them separate at this point.

Finally, the req count has actually been going up hitting in the mid 9,000s a few days a week as more clients are coming onboard. The roof is almost fixed and the lease for 10 years has almost been negotiated on the Dyer building. In other words, the future is a lot better for LabWest than it was for Westcliff back in January due to its financial situation.

I Noticed the Skinny little girl Kip was walking around on Tour a week ago or so...Go Team Labwest ! It's not Nicholson's Lab vs LabWest....there will be no competition ! No the req. count hasn't been going up...it will hit 9k on Monday nights and fall to low 8k by weeks end...the new Clients going onboard will bring in a handfull of reqs....literally! Yes Labwest is in a better position these days...thanks to the bankruptcy. As far as over all Customer Satisfaction and TAT...Labwest will never come near what Westcliff provided a year or two ago @ 10k plus.... you can give all the excuses in the world, but the fact is...Clients are very pissed off at Labwest and Management can't seem to pull their head out of their rears and come up with a solution....Mr. Clark whom recently left seemed to be the glue that kept Skinner, Kip, Pounds etc...together...the brain has left...Labwest will go down to the mid 7k req. count by years end...hopefully by then..the FTC would have concluded that Labcorp needs to sell, and LabWest dies at the hands of Sonic waiting in the shadows...giving birth to a sucessfull new Company. Only if all the department heads are whacked and replaced with Sonic minds...not Unilab / Quest rejects!

I actually think it might be better if the FTC makes LabCorp sell LabWest. They told us there are many buyers that would purchase LabWest, now that all its financial problems are gone from the lawsuit. At least under a new owner, possibly all that is LabWest right now would remain as opposed to if we are fully LabCorp, we would be integrated into the LabCorp system and several tests will be shipped off to San Diego along with the duplication of services.

Sounds like Andrea-Speak.

So tell me this, how man reqs is Nicholson's getting? And what makes you think he won't start up his lab again, make quick profit, then bail out like he did with Westcliff? I don't understand what makes all of you think that going to a start up lab is more promising than staying with one that has been a mainstay for the past decade and counting.

Last I heard, they get 300 reqs. The real question is why are we even talking about such a lab that barely gets specimens and pays their processors $20 an hour. Sure that's good money, but in the long run is that a winning strategy? Of course Nicholson will try to build up the lab and sell it again. Problem is times have changed and HMOs will soon dominate which pay next to nothing for lab services due to healthcare reform. Only the big 2 or 3 national labs will get the most contracts and survive. The small mom and pop labs will struggle to make ends meet and fall by the way side in a few years unless the Republicans can repeal the law.
