Knee Poly Failure

Seeing some knees back with early poly wear. It seems like the product mgrs are unaware of an issue and seem to think it’s surgeon malalignment of components. Anyone else seeing or hearing about this?

I've seen close to 10 different instances where there is excessive poly wear in 5-6 years or less. Most of them are the sloped inserts but catastrophic issue. It's circulating quite a bit and I've had a lot of questions from surgeons that do a lot of revisions. I'm getting out as soon as possible

Now that’s the hip poly is failing and we’re seeing the letter circulated around the knee issue becomes a little more difficult to defend. This is just the beginning of major poly issues. Customers are going to be pissed!!

So far shoulder is unaffected but this current hip poly issue is serious and raises questions and concerns about our poly, corporate leaders and company in general. This will be tough

Not sure they do make it back from this one. Will be a long road for sure. My understanding is that the shoulder poly has a shorter shelf life so therefore not being pulled at this point. I have however heard that they may be working on a new hybrid glenoid due to the fact that they are having issues with the current one now. Seems like a lot of issues coming to the front with this company. The exit strategy was to be acquired and I don't see that happening anytime now with all the problems. They hired a bunch of former Biomet people some of which are really good but at the end of the day the products just don't stack up!

Full disclosure. I am a Competitive rep and just looking for an answer to this question below.

I read the letter Exactech sent to Hosp and Doctors about packaging being issue since 2004. My understanding was that all knee poly needed to be repackaged. A doctor in the hosp I work in uses them and they were pulled out of hosp few weeks ago. They showed up this week and did some knees but the poly was not newly packaged and some of it was packaged couple years ago? Am I missing something or do I have my information incorrect? Can someone explain please?

Malpractice at this point for a surgeon to be using Exactech knees. These revisions are nasty. Decimated polys, lysis everywhere, the bone that remains after implants come out is soft and spongy. These are only 4, 5, 6 years out. Sad stuff for these patients.
