Just started a job and got a much better offer...

I am in hospital capital equipment sales and have been interviewing for a new job for about 4 months. After turning down several offers that weren't the right fit, I just started a good job with a very large company 2 weeks ago. I was just offered a much better position (more $$, smaller territory, better future growth potential) and I feel horrible to quite my current job. I haven't been to training yet, don't have my company car or cell, but all should arrive this week. I feel like I need to look out for myself and my family, but know the current company will be very upset. What would you do if you were me?

Just remember one thing -- "They" say the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Have you always found that to be true?

If you really think the new offer is that much better, take the job. Believe me, the company your'e working for could go belly up and then you'd be sunk. Or, the company with the better offer could go belly up.

Companies don't look out for you. You need to do what is best for you. If option B truly is better, quit in a professional but honest way... which is you've been offered an opportunity that is better for you and your family and it's something you can't pass up but thank you for offering the opportunity at company A. Don't burn bridges but choose what works for you.

Its an easy decision to do what is best for you and your family.

Forget about the company. Loyalty is a thing of the past, and companie will always do what is best for them, even if you are a highly productive employee.

Good luck!

Dito to the above post.

I was recently received of verbal offer and was waiting for the written contract. Thursday roles around and the UPS truck drives by. I make the call the hiring manager. The offer was retracted do to a shift in corporate structure.

Like many, I learned a long, long time ago - Management, executives and shareholders call the shots. Do you think they would lose any sleep knowing they were going to can you after training? Not a wink.

Take the better job and don't look back. Not for one minute. I remember when I got laid-off a couple of years ago and the VP said "no problem, you will land on your feet". I had relocated my family and just bought a new home. Surprise! Not quite that easy. It cost me my savings, my credit rating and nearly my marriage.

TAKE THE BETTER JOB! There are so many candidates you will be back filled in an afternoon.
