Just got a job with B&L and having some serious doubts

Would like some genuine feedback here please. I recently got a job with B&L selling some of the pharmaceutical eye drop products. I’m having major doubts about this company. It became immediately apparent to me the culture here is terrible, there is a constant and always imminent threat of layoffs, moreso than even most other pharma companies (that’s actually what led me here in the first place to verify). The onboarding and “training” has been TERRIBLE. I actually still have my other job, should I just forget all about this little detour and never worry about putting it on my resume??

Thanks for the advice and feedback

Sorry to hear about your situation.

Welcome to the Corporate America. It is a god dam mess. It will not get better for you because these companies (all of them) view YOU as a utility, and not a human being. I was at this game for over 20 years, and recently left to pursue a career in teaching. My new career is not perfect, but with my Masters in English, I make close to 100K, and I get 3-4 months off. Great deal. They key to teaching is to find the right school, in the right community.

Back to B and L, well, that place has to be one of the worst situations you can put yourself in because the stress you feel is REAL, and the cortisol build up with shorten your life. It may even lead to a heart attack or worse. So, I would not ignore your stress and I would resign if you can, immediately (if you have ample supply of money, you can do this) or when you have a good career plan in place. My friend recently quit after about 15 years at Pfizer, to return to his career as a pilot. It gets to everyone, this corporate nonsense. The ones that survive are likely psychopaths that have lost their heart. They are corporate robots. Don't be like them.

I would add one more thing, if you don't or can't quit: "trying too hard makes you look like an amateur". Remember that quote. Don't ever try to hard working for another company or person. You will never please these psychopaths (read Snakes in Suits), and you will look and feel like an amateur trying to do it.

Life is as easy as you want it to be. You are in control. Life does not have to be difficult. Buddha was wrong!

Best to you. Keep us posted. Don't quit. It will get better. You have options. And, I would add that a person like you has a great mind and heart to understand that these companies (and there are no exceptions in the Fortune 500 world) don't care about you. They only care about themselves and profit. Never forget that.

And NO, don't put it on your resume unless it is one year or more.

Not sure is this is a legit post or just a copy and paste. I understand corporate America and don’t need validation from it. They see me as a utility? Perfect, two can play that game, as to me they are something I exploit for my own benefit just as they do to me. Like I said, I still have my other job. I’m not looking for a dissertation on corporate America in general - I want to know about B&L specifically. I’m trying to decide if I want to continue this shit show, or simply put my focus and efforts into my other pharma job making a bare min $150k a year. I’ll be fine either way, but I would really like some sensible feedback on this company and if it may be worth it to just sign off before I get in too deep.

I’ve been here a while and I say avoid the current crap show and the future crap storm once the sale is announced officially. Stay where you are in the other Pharma company. I’d have left if I had a better option. Had some lateral moves potentially but the grass is not always greener unless they paid significantly more which those moves didn’t so I’m still here

Companies like this one aren't going to want experts studying their workplace because they are likely to find all types of dysfunction and discrepancies. There are ways around this stone-cold fact.

Your first impression will set the tone for your career. If you feel like so far it has been awful and you still have another career go back. However- they are you leaving the other company? Also growing pains right? No company is perfect. The training department has been a nonstop circle of change once we acquired Novartis but hopefully it
Will get better.

I watched a bald eagle fly down out of a tree and try to kill a duck yesterday. The eagle was unsuccessful on his first attempt. Surprisingly, the ducks didn't move to the shelter of brush or fly away. Instead, they simply moved to a different open area of the pond. Hence, they were sitting ducks and that's exactly how I would describe this company.

Do you think that eagle will soon catch those ducks?

They are you
Leaving the company?? I’m guessing you meant do they know I am leaving/have another job?

Of course not.

Keep both jobs. You are stressing over nothing. B&L is fine if you don't let it bother you.
It bothers the hell out of me. Terrible leadership, terrible onboarding, obvious layoffs in the horizon after the inevitable buyout. You work there right? So you know about the email the CEO sent last week about the Financial Times article?
