Job Opportunity - Field Customer Service Rep

I am very new to the industry but been in discussion to join the company in the role stated in title. I have read the message boards here as well as doing other extensive research.

Can anyone give me an honest, professional opinion of working here?

I have deduced that since it is contract work, employment can be short-lived. Do contracts typically have a set time they expire, or can expire at any moment?

What is the benefit package like - pay, vacation, training, etc?

Any educated response is appreciated.

Benefits are 'ok', getting a little worse every year... as far as the vacation, pay and training, that all varies depending on what contract you land on. Someone with no pharma sales experience is likely to land with a client with a basic entry level contract... so you're looking at starting with 2 weeks of vacation per year. plus 5 floating holidays, typical pay between 40-55/annually. Training I can't answer because that really does depend on the contract. Some contracts send you to NJ, some bring you to wherever the company is based, and some do training in a completely different location all together. You’ll either be given a car, or be paid to use your own car – also depending on the contract.

Working contract is a double edged sword for obvious reasons, Contracts do have end dates, but the client can terminate that at any time. The client has to give the company notice that the contract's going to end though, and they'll let you know as soon as they know, and usually give at least a month's notice. Within that month, efforts will be made to place you on a new contract, but there's no guarantee.

Op. #2 is right on. There are certain provisions depending on the contract that may prohibit you from immediately going on to another contract. They call this contractual obligations and means if the contract says calls are made to the end of the year, calls have to be made. You generally will not be eligible for other positions till your present actually ends. Leave inVentiv for an outside position and your forfeit any bonus earned. Most new positions require you to go through the loops all over again. If the project is client driven, you're likely up against mainly displaced and out of work reps, CSO and pharma.

People seem to be really harsh on this board. What gives?

Is it really that bad of a gig, work from home, be on the road, etc?

Just trying to see what all of the fuss is about.

Ventiv and the Industry are not what they used to be....therefore the nagativity...I personally have had mixed experience depending on the contract and client manufacturer demands of the rep...Each Ventiv contract is a reflection of the pharma company and some of the demands have become pretty unreasonable
