JNJ to cut 3000 jobs in medical device segment

You posted this thread in the right category! Guess who is first to go... Ethicon products can easily be operated without a sales representative in the room or offering their advice, it can and will always be that way. Soon the hospitals will realize (cannot imagine why they haven't already) that they can buy Ethicon products at a much cheaper price with the salesforce being involved. This is one of the first repless models hospitals should start with as soon as possible.

Project Constitution.....part II. I hate to see this as many I know may be affected. The models of delivery are changing and whether you want to face reality or not, the rep-less model is coming. Hospitals are squeezing, the Suppliers are squeezing, and there are only so many dollars in the pie. Hospitals need price reductions, the supplier needs to maintain a positive cash flow, and FTE reduction is the fastest means to maintaining viability. The cuts won't be coming from R&D. This is not just a J&J thing either. The entire industry is the early stages of a dynamic delivery change.

I totally agree. If you are a sales rep you should be well into the process of getting the training, education, or experience you need to transition to a totally different career.

Are the cuts happening in sales? marketing? techs? Any cuts going on at Cincy or NJ offices?

Number of people working in the Cincy office has been decreasing over the past few years, from about 1,000+ people to about 800+ now. There were rumors of closing the Cincy office at one point and moving all Ethicon to NJ, but not sure where this is at.

It would make financial sense to move forward and close the Cincinnati office....it's become a ghost town over the past few years of downsizing. And, it would be a fast multimillion off the books!
