Jim Tressel Resigns as Ohio State's Football Coach

F him.

Maybe he can open up a store and sell famous athlete's used socks, jocks and t-shirts.

Maybe even used butt-wipe.

No doubt there would be some willing buyers in this country. :D

OSU is just a microcosm of the entire corrupted nation.

This crap has permeated all segments of society.

From Wall Street to government to higher education to churches to the court system to pro sports - all the so-called 'pillars' of our society. All as dirty as a pig's ass.

So don't rag on OSU too much.

They are just following the going trend. ;)

SO THAT MAKES IT RIGHT DOUCHE BAG!
OSU CAN'T EVEN CHEAT GOOD!!

Well that would go in their favor then.

If they can't cheat good they are probably neophytes at it and deserve some leniency.

If you want to find some real seasoned, expert cheaters - go to Washington DC or Wall Street.

Those are the cheater capitals of the world. :)

I have to agree wit ya. The Wall Street bandits walked away with $trillion$ and not one main player was prosecuted. In fact, they were rewarded for bringing down the global economy with their get-rich-quick scheme. Several lied when testilying before congress too. Not even one brought to justice. Yet if Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens allegedly lie to congress about steroid use the DOJ goes apeshit crazy and throws the book at them.

Seems like the only people having their feet held to the fire anymore in this country are the little people and the athletes. Two books of laws, folks. Two books of laws.

Tressel was a fall guy.

The thing that everyone is missing about Tressell's forced resignation is that it was not about cheating but about covering up the truth. Athletes selling their gear for tattoos does not give Ohio State a competitive advantage. If Tressell would have self-reported this violation to the NCAA then we would not even be having this discussion.

I believe Ohio State tries it's best to regulate it's boosters but it is almost an impossibility. No major College Football Program can regulate their boosters. I am sure this season will be erased from the record books for OSU but we will all remember that Ohio State beat Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl. I really don't think the NCAA Committee On Infractions is going to bring down the hammer on them. This case is very different from Reggie Bush and USC.

If anyone here knows anything about the NCAA it is that they rule very arbitrarily and you cannot cite previous cases as any indication on how they will rule. Ohio State will have a few tough years but they will hire a proven head coach and rise from the ashes. No one here can deny the fact that Ohio State is one of the Top 5 College Football Programs in the Country.

Ohio State is way better off than Auburn. Cam Newton (Ongoing NCAA Investigation) is just the tip of the iceberg for Auburn. Believe me you will all see the shit hit the fan for Auburn this year.

No way. Napoleon has resigned from Auburn so problem solved. I'm just glad that the SEC doesn't cover up these shenanigans like the other conferences. I figure the SEC and the ACC are about as clean as it gets.

When I first heard about Tressel's resignation my first reaction was "screw Tressle". But then I sat back and thought about this situation for a few minutes.

First off, Tressel was caught between a rock and a hard place. If he knew about this trade of personal stuff for tattoos it's such a chickenshit nothingburger that at the very most it should be handled internally between coach and players. No reason to run to the NCAA with it. Do you people have any fing idea how much shit changes hands between booster clubs, alumni associations, 'independent third parties' and the most talented players in college ball? Shit, I recall way back when I went to a 2-year community college (I think they called 'em Junior Colleges then). Even at that level the best BB and FB players were driving new cars and paid a ridiculous lowball price for them. The jocks at the 4 year college I attended teh super jocks were getting all sort of favors and special privileges that no one else got. No doubt in my mind this crap happens everywhere. You don't think there are young buxom ho's offered to the cream of the crop athletes as an enticement??? Come on. Wise up.

IMO Tressel was screwed either way he turned. Had he snitched the players off to the NCAA he would have lost his best talent AND the other team members would have turned on him. He would have been a pariah on that football team. Nobody on the team would respect him and they would dog it on the football field. The team would have a shitty season and the athletic director and University President would jump in his shit. On the other hand, when the NCAA found out about it through the grapevine (which they did) Tressel got canned. So they had him coming or going.

Sort of like a cop who snitches off another cop for wrongdoing. Oh, sure - he did the right thing but he'd might at well find another career because he will be ostracized and hounded until the day he turns in his badge. That's life, folks. Fair??? Fuck no. But that's the way it is.

So I wish Mr. Tressel all the best. He's got to be feeling pretty low about now and I just hope he knows there are some people like me who understand the predicament he was in. I really hope the man lands on both feet and doesn't break stride. He wasn't a great coach - but he was a damned good coach and didn't deserve to go out this way.

Until the NCAA starts ferreting out all the underhanded shit that goes on in college athletics and STANDARDIZING the punishment - IMO this is nothing short of a farce - a witch hunt.

College athletics is starting to become as corrupted as big government and big business. What you have is selective enforcement and arbitary punishment.

That's bullshit. :(

Do you mean Bobby Louder? Now Pat Dye needs to be totally removed from the program. Milton McGregor (Casino Owner-Auburn Booster) will be going on trial this summer for allegedly bribing Alabama Legislators to vote for pro-gambling legislation. The Judge on the case is going to allow the FBI wiretaps as evidence. Lots of folks think that McGregor was involved in the recruitment/procurement of Cam Newton and the wiretaps will prove it. It's definitely not a coincidence that Cecil Newton's Church in Newnan, GA miraculously came up to city code after Cam signed with Auburn. I think it's funny to watch paranoid Auburn Fans get all bent out of shape when you mention the Cam Newton/Cecil Newton recruiting scandal.
