Is this a sales job?

A real sales job means that you are evaluated on sales. A good sales manager could care less what you do to generate sales as long as you are operating legally. The give and take of sales is more freedom/autonomy= having to face a sales sheet each month. When values and behaviors are introduced, things become objective. How many DM's are more worried about their reputation than the success of their reps? I have to believe in the current Novartis environment there are very few DM's and RD's that are true sales managers. Most have never really faced a true sales sheet. Goals and goal setting is the landscape that they have been weened on.

Brilliant. Since we don't actually SELL a damn thing. Have you ever walked out of a docs office with an ORDER or a CONTRACT? Ummm...nope!

So no this ain't a sales job, it's all product promotion which can be done in many ways more effectively and efficiently.

When you get right down to it, all the docs care about are the young firm boobies being displayed when the females come in for their signature sessions of 20 seconds. So shake 'em good and fast, girls! rah rah

"this is not a sales job" will be further verified soon. You will be paid by the hour. Easily tracked with I Pad and blackberry, no overtime issues, no need to evaluate on sales, only on subjective "customer service" like a counter person at McDonalds. What a great career.

And, the longer DM's and RD's stay in this business, the LESS they are MARKETABLE to OTHER industries. Would hate to be a 40+ year old trying to transfer my pharma skills into another profession. It's going to be tough out there for them.

'pharma skills' ?????? what's that? the ability to pick up and deliver sandwiches?

it's not tough-it's IMPOSSIBLE=enjoy your money til it vanishes 'poof'
