I have an interview for Ethicon and was wondering if anyone has pointers for the phone interview ? What do you think of the company? Do they have a lot of layoffs? Typical Salary range? Is potential to make $100k first year typical for most new reps?

Ethicon suture reps are one of the biggest joke jobs in all of "med device". Over 90+% of all hospitals & surgery ctrs in the US use Ethicon sutures. There really isn't much selling to do because every surgeon wants/needs it. Use it as a stepping stone and move on after a couple of yrs.

When you say 'Ethicon suture' what region of country? There are no 'suture' reps anymore (unless something changed yesterday). We are all Ethicon Surgical Care. One endo mech wound closure division with 550 or so reps. A territory leader has oversite and all those products. The HBT has specialty products. Which are you interviewing for? Suture only accounts for 15% or so of what the TL does get paid on.

If you are younger than 26-27 go for it. It is good money still. Probably if you are out of college the pay w commission I would say is around $100k plus company car, gas card, and an expense account usually for 9 months out of the year until the company has no money left. Do not by any means be a GYN or HBT rep. HBT is the safer of the 2 but unless you are prepared to drive multi state, hours upon hours in a car, not worth it in my opinion. Be a TL (Team Lead). Small territories but a lot more responsibility. I do believe there will be more layoffs next year and this is not a stable place to work.

we are in a hiring freeze. layoffs are coming to some and the positions that are open will be filled with those who got cut.
