Interview

I was just wondering if anyone could give me any insight as to what a typical interview is like with this company? I have an interview in a few weeks and I am nervous - I have been out of the workforce for some time. Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It will depend on the person performing the interview. They will ask you general questions about your resume such as your past job duties, why you left your employer, or why you are seeking employment with them. You will be asked 2-4 questions on how you would handle a particular situation. Good luck hope things go well.

Which contract? Which area? It depends on the Manager. You may have to role play and try to sell a product. Good Luck!

Do yourself a favor and avoid Publicis. I don't know your situation, but after being laid off from a "real" drug rep position elsewhere, I took a Publicis job because my severence package was close to running out, & we just had a kid.

I had no idea how much taking a contract position would set me back in the industry's eyes when it came to finding a new job. My manager was canned & he couldn't find a sales position even with a management title.

Now... With that being said... If you are under 30, are a very attractive woman, and the manager of the territory of the company you are contracted with is a man? Go for it. The odds of you being hired by the contractor are definitely in your favor. I know that sounds jaded, but it's true. But if you are a seasoned rep who needs the income, then my advise is to look elsewhere. Because a year or two will go by, and all you will have to show for it on your resume is a job that you will need to explain your way around in any interviews with legitimate employers.

I wish someone had said something like this on a post before I worked for that awful place. I don't even know why I came back to CP today to put this post on here. I guess I just don't want people to make the same mistake that I made. Publicis is a French Company with one thing in mind; fill a position for half the price. You will never be a priority to them. And who wants that out of life?

Its not easy at all, Sometime they take a psychological twist and ask the same question but word it different. The interviewer also recorded and videotaped because she said she needed it for review. I felt more comfortable going to my obgyn that sitting in front of her. Be prepared for anything.

The interview can be the simple STAR question format. Remember, the Publicis managers that you meet with are laid off pharma managers and can have sympathy for your situation. Depending on the contract, you may have to interview with the manufacturer's managers as well. They may be a bit more insensitive. The manufacturer manager most likely will think that they are better than anyone associated with Publicis because they haven't been downsized yet. Have at least 5 stories to discuss in the STAR format.

Regarding the post ranting about what a mistake Publicis was for him. I see your point but when faced with no job or switching to a new industry then 55-60 with a car allowance and bonuses may not seem so bad. It is a temporary bandaid job. However, if I were hiring a rep, I would rather hire someone who has been out there doing the job instead of sitting at home for 6 months stubbornly awaiting a response from a manufacturer and complaining that you can't find a job.

If you are just coming into the industry, I would advise that you seriously consider a different industry even if you are going to make $20,000 less than a contract job. The reason is that you can build up your salary with experience and have a long career doing most jobs. If you are out there in the field in pharma you'll see two types of reps usually. One is the newbie fresh from another industry who is scared and excited. The second is the more experienced rep who has made it through layoffs and is scared about their current job, wishing that they could feel a deeper sense of pride in what they do, realizing that they have spent too much time in the industry and don't feel that they have much to offer any other industry.

I am not bitter but telling it like I see it.

You are absolutely correct on everything! if you want any type of future, stay away, far away from this company.

Questions tend to be on the psychological side. What would you do if????Why would you do that???? What 5 things do you dislike most in your job experience, Give us an example of how you start your day. If you could be a pro basketball team who would it be and why. Why didnt you pick team B etc.
