Interventional Radiology

Copied from different thread:

"How does the interventional radiology division compare to the others? The best, the worst? I've been reading posts about urology, critical care, but haven't seen much posted about this specific business unit. I think my chances of getting the job are good but I'm not desperate and can be selective about the opportunities I take. I already know the money is not that good but it could be a step in the right direction down the road? Can anyone share their insight regarding the good, bad, and ugly of the interventional radiology division?"

What's the deal with Dallas and Milwaukee? Why are they still open?

They're open because device reps don't like to sit in the lab and realize that very other rep they see makes double (not exaggerating) what they pull in. If no pressure/no pay is a philosophy you support, Cook is a great company to work for.

It's a shame. Cook has great products, a good name and their booth at SIR is the size of a city block. They have a major presence in IR, no question. They just pay like shit, pure and simple.

The last part of this is very true. Cook does not pay well. Everybody knows that. Do not be suprised if you get an offer and see what the pay is. You were warned. I dont care how great you think you are or if you think you can negotiate for more. Not gonna happen. If you bring up pay at any point in the process you will be out, no questions asked. The first rule at Cook is, YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT MONEY. This is a job for moms and people to break into device. You will make 65k salary and bonus combined while your competition makes 150k.

If you are an overweight housewife, or a no talent has been this would be a good place for you. You will never make 100K, and they give you a shitty car to boot. Worst talent pool of managers around too.

It amazes me the complete bullshit that is on cafe pharma. Way over 100k is very doable....I can attest to that. Great company. Yes, other device jobs you can make in the 300/400 range if good which is not the case w/ Cook.

What IR reps are making 300-400k?? Can't wait to hear your response because that is complete bullshit!

All of that previous post you quoted is bullshit. First, you have zero chance of making "way over a 100K" w/ Cook. In any division. Second, there are very few reps selling in the IR making $300-$400K. The only exceptions I can think of are the occasional Bard Access rep that has a once in a lifetime year or a AAA rep (not Cook) that happens to have an IR doc doing those cases.
IR is a great call point. The board is cleared at a decent time, they're loyal and will indepently use your product when you're not there.
The catch is most companies/devices that are truly IR focused happen to offer mediocre comp when compared to cardio or ortho...
