Integra Buys Ascension Orthopedics

Good move for the Recon sales group?

A $65M acquisition for $19M additional revenue with declared losses of $2M per quarter (potentially $8M p.a consolidated) In Ascensions 15th trading year, in a fast growing market sector, it was probably the optimal time for any board would cash out at 3x projected annual turnover.
This must obviously be a great opportunity for Recon as that $19M will constitute 45% of Recons business; near doubling the revenues. If the synergies are found in the portfolios and the, 'expected' leverage achieved through the Recon Sales Team then it's gravy all round. Mind you, you can't say it's a good move until the dust settles, the losses are mitigated, the product lines are truly rationalized and Recon have the Ascensions portfolio in their bag! It's a fiercely competitive sector.

I have to agree with post number 2 to an extent. Ty for your reply... I also am curious about the foot and ankle market... Is foot and ankle a market that will be growing due to the baby boomers over the years? Will there be growth and or stability for a rep in this market for the next 5 - 10 years. Considering the change of healthcare and GPO's etc? Compared to other device markets, where is the foot and ankle (Lower and upper Extr. Recon also) in the pecking order. Compared to spine, neuro, vascular etc....Looking for a seasoned vet or someone with some insight. Thanks.

Ascension acquisition already has caused layoffs at Integra....

Some real brain-dead decisions made yesterday as to who to keep and let go. A few really effective people were cut (not me) but lots of dead timber still standing in the Integra forest.

Be careful ...when Integra buys a company they clean house. Looks like they are doing it already with Ascension. They have had alot of problems in Recon. In 2010 the Instrument Jarit division purchased Luxtec, fired all the management, all the reps were also let go or forced to quit with poor performance evaluations which is Integra's way of working. They closed the Luxtec Manufacturing facility, once the #1 Headlight in the world, now it's crap and Integra is having to recall the lightsources, since they now outsource Luxtec, so manufacturing has big problems, or lack of it! So it is not even the product it used to be a couple years ago...machines and headlights sitting in halls, or in Biomed with no one who knows who the rep could be or even who would fix them, Integra customer service doesn't even know. They also bought Welsh Allen Headlights and also turned that product to garbage. Integra was served with an age discimination suit and the EEOC ruled in favor of the fired employees. Big slap on their horrible company, good thing Stu makes 35 million a year income. It's a terrible company, management is clueless, and anyone who even thinks they should go work for them, just know that they don't or won't care about you, your customers or the products you represent, just the $$$$$'s and making the cheapest products around. Go find a job with another company who sells surgical equipment and who cares about the bottom line...THE PATIENT!

Very interesting comments. How is the spine side doing? Since purchasing seaspine? A little birdie told me that sales have plummeted from the Teken side since the acquisition.
