That is a great question. If you listen to any of the fear mongers on CP then the answer is they are all terrible. In reality, for what we do and the money we make the answer is any pharma job out there is good if you can keep your base salary at 115k +. Think about it, we generally make a minimum of about $150,000 per year, have all of our expenses paid for, and work out of our homes.
If you go small biotech then expect a great culture, great pay, and a bumpy ride. benefits can range from poor to great. Risk of acquisition, turnover among management, and loss of job stability is high. Also, the culture is likely to change for the worse over time. For this opportunity the fear monger says: "if the start-up does well worry about getting bought" "if the company does poorly worry about getting bought or laid off"
Large pharma including Pfizer, Merck, Actavis, and Amgen, Gilead, and Abbvie, generally have decent pay. Salaries in the specialty areas of these companies can be 100K + and most are actually paying salaries that are competitive with the biotech companies. Expect to see base salaries in the 115K range for experienced reps. Risk of acquisition is lower here but risk of re-organization or "optimization" is high with the larger companies. Culture is generally big pharma but considering we work alone 90% of the time it's not a big deal.
Fear monger says: "it's big pharma and the base salaries are only 70k, you will have a roommate" ask around and you'll find that the salaries are indeed very competitive and the specialty divisions of these companies do not have roommates. Merck does not have roommates.
And finally the short answer is Regeneron will be hiring for an expansion very soon.
