If you are not prepared for the layoff - blame yourself

We ALL know that the industry is downsizing and we have known this for over 5 years. Have you really just sat around hoping for the best? The Pharma sales rep job is over. Even if you don't get cut, you will most likely lose your job in the long run. If you don't have a plan B don't blame NVS, blame yourself.

My plan B will pay me more than NVS. I work at NVS because the job is easy and basically part time. 10 years ago I loved this job, today I dread Monday mornings.

Stallion boy, ride on off into the sun set with your big ass check. You are a man among boys.

Brilliant. I love your type. You always have the answer. You will be no farther ahead in 5 years than you are now. Just older and uglier.

I hear you.A backup plan is in place and I'm glad I am prepared.

I left this shit hole a few years ago after taking out the DM that was planning on fucking me over at year end review. At first it was hard to walk away, but definitely landed on my feet with a job that I never have to worry about lay offs with and makingmore money than Novartis. Defonitely agree with original post......If you didn't know this was coming and you didnt plan accordingly, it is your own damn fault.

All of these people that say they prepared and are ready have no idea and are the ones that will be jumping off of bridges. Believe me, you are not prepared. Or I was not prepared for noone wanting to hire me.

Agreed. I began an advanced degree 3 years ago when it was already obvious to anyone with an IQ over 80 that Novartis and pharma sales in general were a dead end, and Novartis paid for a decent chunk of it. I have accepted a job that will yield me an 80% pay raise in a company that has never had bulk layoffs in an industry that has far more stability. Unless you are 5-10 years away from retirement or have a spouse that can support you there is really no good reason to not have started working on a B plan years ago. I do feel bad for everyone about to lose their jobs but the apathy demonstrated here is amazing to me. We have the most flexible schedules in the world and tons of time off... you couldn't have taken classes or networked with people you know at other companies?

Whatcha gonna do about the free company car?

Did you plan for this? Like they're going to make you give your car up. Can you go out and buy a 25 or 30K car for cash next day? Can you get a car loan without a job?

Whatcha gonna do when they come for you!

If you are worried about coming up with money to buy a car you did not plan correctly. You mean you do not have $15k to buy a used car? I have over $500k cash and enough investments to last many years. Pharma has been my only job and I am 39. Planning is the key.

Yes I am like the above poster. I have close to 120K in cash and other investments as well and I would never get a new car.
We must be thinking the same cause I am going to spend about 15K on a good used vehicle which will last me till its time for another
I do feel sorry for those people that haven't planned.

Well your a dumb ass for staying in this miserable career for so long!! And a "bigger dumb ass" for not owning your own company by now!!!

I stay for the easy money. I own my own company built on NVS time. People work for my company and I make money off their hard work. So who is the dumb ass now? If you only knew how poor you really are.

Your statement only applies to those who really NEED this job. Some of us have spouses that do very well and we've contained our living expenses that one our incomes can cover everything.

As for the car, this was the discussion. Like most people, I love the technology and advanced styles of the European sedans and SUV s. I even like the American (Mexican) made cars, but I cannot stomach a car payment. When I was axed in 09, I paid cash for a wore out Subaru. It was around 5k. It runs great and drove it the hell and back. Does it look good parked in my neighborhood? No. But I am not paying $800 a month for a piece a metal to look fashionable.

You can have a lot of fun on a monthly basis for what you would be paying in a car loan.

My best to the people of Novartis. You guys are classy group and will all find your way.
