Is it just me or am I getting way to smart for this job...??

It seems to get dumber and dumber every day...The managers here are laughable...How do they look people in the eye and spew their poison with a straight face...?

like a bunch of rats in a cage, with a sliver of cheese is dropped in...That is what this company reminds me of...Too many desperate folks (good people most of them) trying to earn a living in this G_d forsaken place...as our crack management team cuts compensation
and beats down the sales force...

sad way to spend one's days ya think??

This job does rob you of your soul and if you are not careful any ambition that you may have ever had. I have met many reps over the years with many different companies and I agree that 90% of them are good decent people just trying to make a living. Most of us are just hanging on because we really don't know what else to do or what else we may be qualified to do. If you have been a pharma rep for any length of time, your skills diminish rapidly.

OP - you are right on the money. How many other jobs have a skill set requirement of: ask to see doctor, sit and read People magazine for 20 mins, being asked to leave because office doesn't need samples. If you are having a good day you can actually see 1 maybe 2 doctors - but hurry on your way because he or she needs to make money and you aren't doing anything to improve their top line. You most likely don't have any new information either.

Oh, and our other skill set is caterer.

Definitely not missing the part to be a caterer!!!

Ditto. Not missing being dictated by a M.A. what to bring and where to order lunch or I won't get to see the DOCTOR. Then the moronic doctor walks in, pretending he/she is above all these, pig out and refuse to listen or interact. Or being forewarned by the staff that Dr. Holier Than Thou likes to relax during lunch but we want you to spend $$ and bring us the most expensive stuff but please sit there and act like a mute.

So very true! People actually working for a living with think this business is absurd, among other things. Then there is the price thing, too.

it is the most absurd industry out there when you think about it...It exists solely to keep the highly paid middle and senior managers employed...It is like a racket or a ponzi scheme really...the top people make out like bandits, and everybody else (eventually) gets hosed...

the real kiss of death is to get out you need to start from scratch basically...re-training or more advanced education...

very hard to get the taint of pharma sales off of you once you have been doing it awhile...

No shit. I had to go back to school for advanced ed. I quickly found out pharma sales experience has an awful reputation that everybody now seems to know and my achievements and recognition in pharma carried little weight with anybody. Thankfully I had only 5 years with Merck, wasn't married, and still in my twenties. I sympathize with everyone trying to better themselves by getting out of pharma, but especially those of you that have families, expenses, and age working against you.

So true...hopefully those with "age working against them" were there for the "golden years of pharma", and built a nice nest egg. If not, you're screwed.
