Ideas Of What News May Come Out For PC In Dec?

Ventiv is taking over the sales force piece by piece. They've aready taken Marketing over completely (hush, hush....good little boys and girls----don't tell anyone yet.) The current push is to continue to get people to quit. With the success they've had getting reps to quit, they will continue this and cheaply replace the entire sales force in the next 2 years.

The announcement will be minor.

New manager possible
New customers for sure

Your mgr could be A B C or D team

Why the changes? Changing accounts means a down town in creating new relationships...why do this if its not needed? I can see the gas issue with cost, so reps work local rather than big drives...but besides this I cant see any other reason from this view...

Here's something juicy to sink your teeth into: word over at Abbott is that they piloted a structure where reps had no district manager, only an admin manager for paperwork, etc (1 manager for 40-50 reps). Productivity went thru the roof! Could Merck be going to something like this? Other companies are trying this also. I think this is an excellent idea. Really, unless someone is brand new, what do they get from a DM? An internal customer with an insatiable appetite for bullshit. 30% of my offices already don't allow mgrs to go to the back; 80% can't stand them. We get paid to be professionals, but are treated like children by these people. Treat us with maturity and respect and we will return the behavior, along with more sales productivity.

I love the idea; I just don't know if Merck has the guts to go with a plan like this! However, with the new ipads... they can certainly track us to know if we are in the field.

I've always thought the purpose of the relentless amount of field visits by my manager was to determine if we were going into various offices routinely.

Nothing new. The Old Merck operated like that. The manager saw the reps as his internal customers. My old manager would ask what he could do to help, what to pass on, and ideas to help my career/pay raises/recognition, etc. At the end of a field visit he would remind me of a few items to work on and improve. We did not have bulging-eye managers like these days shaking their laptop/iPad, pointing at trends, and modeling how to be sassy and screw up our customer interactions.

Makes sense. Quality access is difficult enough without having a "suit" taking space in the office and changing the dynamic of the interaction. No managers in doc offices would be a plus and demonstrate commitment to customer focus.

The old merck was a reasonable and sensible approach to pharmaceutical sales. It was a great environment in which to work and feel good about what one was doing to support and increase business. I always felt my boss was doing his best to enhance my success and he was. We both knew the game and could support one another in that regard. Then the witches brought on the witch hunt and merck made war on reps its norm. When that change happened I knew I had to get the hell out-nearly 15 years ago. Merck now must be beyond my worst dreams.

Going forward pregnancy leave and a heavy dose of family time off and I don't feel good this month will kill Mercky! Does anyone here ever remember real ' PAY FOR PERFORMANCE' or was that just a dream!

I wish Merck would roll something like this out again. One issue with this is that many (myself included) work with some lazy, no good, backstabbing, self important, self promoting POS's. Who woud police these people? Merck currently doesn't and many of them seem to get their bullshit bought hook, line and sinker. Our S3 just got back from month maternity leave and has no problem working 2 hours a day in the field, one or two days a week.

Hey buddy- at least she's out working when she's out working, right? Count your blessings for that. Besides, that's probably all she did before her maternity leave, right?!

After the downsizing in Oncology Dec 3, Project AIM will then begin on the PC side with massive restructuring - terminations. Goodside, you may interview for a contract position. Badside, you are still gone.
