I want to leave this industry and I think I want to be a gym teacher

Anyone know what the requirements are to teach gym? I think it actually may be a difficult job to get because these teachers never leave and there aren't many openings. Also schools are cutting back on PE.

P.s. I have 20 years of pharma and make over 150k a year. But I can't do this anymore. I just can't.

I think I would be happier teaching gym and getting summers off. No ride alongs or pharma lunches.

I'm really curious. Are you the same person who writes all these other anonymous "what should I do?" pharma scenarios on the boards? The general themes of the scenarios and the nearly identical writing styles makes me very suspicious. If so, is this really what rocks your world? Do you get off on eliciting human reactions to make-believe stories? If I'm on to something I suggest that you look for help to resolve whatever issues are going on inside your head. Volunteer work is a great way to focus on things outside our personas.

Ex 12 year pharmaceutical punk here...I had a field ride last week with my manager (non pharmaceutical job), and raised my voice with him when he started talking nonsense.

Never would do that in weak pharmaceutical land for fear of losing my job.

As always, FU PHARMA!

Chances are you'd become a gym teacher and then you'd complain about all the adolescent brats who'd challenge your authority and refuse to follow your instructions. Or you'd complain that the administration shorted you on your PE budget.

Sometimes it's best to look at the glass as half-full and just do your job with a positive attitude. You'd be amazed at the results. People who job hop generally create their own problems.

Agreed. And good luck trying to sustain a 150K salary was a gym teacher. Maybe you are one of the more fortunate ones who has a spouse that "brings home the bacon" and you can do whatever the hell you want. I'm not so lucky being the sole breadwinner and a stay at home mom. Don't have those luxuries....

You could probably do the gym teacher thing buy sell your large mansion of a house and move into something more modest and sell the jag and get you a more reasonable ride like a honda or ford. It can be done, but your lifestyle will have to change.

My Gym teacher makes 110k, after 25 years of service and is going to retire with about 90k pension, annual

If you are in your 40s and younger, I say go for it.

Its a better gig.

I just made the other thread about the complaining, this is a post I will use as an example. $150,000 a year in PHARMA. From what I understand the job isn't hard at all, but the Managers are mean and micromanage you. Yet you just "can't do it anymore"? Can't do WHAT anymore exactly, because you guys said you don't do anything?

When I was working at Subway as a Teen and in my early 20's, I got yelled at, micro-managed, and the whole nine yards. But guess what? I was making just above minimum wage.

I'm really trying to understand this, maybe you guys are lying because you don't have to show your identities here or something? But this makes absolutely no sense. No money isn't EVERYTHING but the things you are complaining about comes with every single job in the marketplace, that's why it makes absolutely no sense to me.

First, nobody is making 150k, unless you are in specialty and in a top 5-10 percent territory.

My guess is the average pharma. rep makes about a 65 base, 15k bonus, so about 80k all day. Not bad.

Second, its all about the manage, always. 50% are terrible, 30% are unbearable, 10% are nasty, and then you have about 5-10% that are angels. So, the odds of having a good manager in pharma is not very good odds.

Finally, this industry is in the bottom 20% of all industries to work for, for intelligent white collar professionals, because you have no creativity during your work day, and because you have to deal with weird doctors all day, not fun. Add the 90% of idiot managers today, and you have a mess...forgot to add the instability and crazy counterparts as well.

As for Subway, we all have had harder jobs than that in high school and college. Not sure how the F you were micromanaged on making sandwiches. Sounds weird. I guess you are a softie at heart....a perfect fit for his industry....which, and I know I am right on this, is the softest sell in the world, and an industry where weak people can ride the coat tails of strong sales people for a long, long, long, time before they are exposed as terrible sales professionals.
