I remember when...

It is interesting to see how the industry has changed in the last 7 years.
I remember when I was a PSS rep in 2005 working on the Takeda contract and I would run into Takeda,Pfizer,Novartis,Abbott and AZ reps and they would look down on me or snicker and say that I wasn't ready for big pharma. It was never said, but you could smell it. You could feel the elitist attitude permeating through the air like an airborne virus.

When I would ask a rep which company he worked for, the Pfizer reps would deepen their voices and say "I. WORK. FOR. FYZER" I remember when Takeda launched Rozerem and their reps were making 30-40k bonuses. They thought they were god's gift to sales.

OHHH how the industry has changed... now you are forced to work at PSS or another CSO with no where else to go. You can't get a job in Medical Devices. Noone else will hire you to sell. There are 10k reps in your area out of work and applying to the available jobs that won't be there when your PSS contract is over....

Wow!! What is your gameplan,now??

YOU ACTUALLY WORK FOR THE COMPANY YOU ONCE DESPIZED and you're close to 40 years old.

any luck getting into device sales... NOPE!!!

SOUNDS LIKE DOOM AND GLOOM TO ME...

Lots of truth in the PP.

How about those who started in Pharma in the early 90s? Or even late 80s? I know of few of those ex-reps and it's beyond difficult for them now.

I too started mid 90s and while I'd love to get back into pharma, it's not crucial that I do, (in terms of $urvival)

So true. All of Pharma is going contract. Glad to be here. At least I can collect a paycheck and save. When I was with Knoll I was king. After going contract I have been happier and have made more money. I did have to change my lifestyle in order to survive contract disruptions but I always had jobs come up. We are in a good place.

you are an idiot.

do you really think medical device is so great?

All sales jobs are terrible. We are corporate pigs, all of us. But, you are a dummy also, so that makes you worse.

All these jobs are going away. Even the contract jobs will turn into CSR jobs that pay 35k a year and you will only need a two year degree. A lot of areas are going to no lunch no sample no see. There is even talk that the government may make it so you can't leave samples anymore. If that happen we are all done. If you haven't started to figure out what you want to do after Pharma you are going to wake up very sorry one day.

"30-40k bonuses. They thought they were god's gift to sales."....this is a laughable bonus in the real sales world....

Well, if you knew how to read, you would see that, that was per quarter.

And 120-160k/year in bonus is good.

But, you are probably a call girl, since you can't read, and you make more than that, right?

What is this "real" sales you are talking about anyway? Nuclear weapons?

Flipping cocky idiot that you are.

This applied to the first two quarter of the Rozerm launch. Though it was a great contract and compnay to work for at the time they PSS bonus was a joke. While some of the Takeda reps were in fact making 30k in bonus since the territory surpassed 125% to plan the PSS reps were not treated the same. The most any PSS rep could make was 6250.00 per quarter. Kine of a slap in the face when everyone in the same territory had the same targets. Outside of that it was a great gig.

You actually didn't reference "quarter" in you post.

this is some funny stuff, nuclear weapons and all.

it is hysterical to read these posts by the medical device reps, who actually think they are super sales people.

Never made fun of any rep from any company including contract sales reps. That is where industry is headed good or bad. I was laid off 3 years ago and went into a different kind of sales. No, I am not making the same money now, but I am not micromanaged and I don't answer to anyone but the owner of the company. I work hard and get the time off I need- not for everyone, but true sales are commission based. Once you have tried it, you won't go back to being babysat by a bunch of neurotics.
