I just got laid off!!

Op here. I was kidding. Just trying to get a reaction. My bad. I know this is people's lives.

This isn't really peoples "lives", or at least it shouldn't be. It's just a job. Not a great job, not a horrible job, just a job. Anyone working here can eventually find another job with another mediocre company like actavis. I'm not saying it's not a challenging time, but life will go on.

Let me share with you from personal experience that this is not just a job. It's your income which helps provide for your family. Every ones situation is different. Maybe some have saved a lot maybe some just did not make enough to be able to save a lot. If anyone is under the perception that it is a breeze to just land another pharma gig..it is not. Many companies are laying off and many reps are vying for the same jobs in the same areas. Being good just does not cut it any more..you have to know someone. So have some empathy and compassion because it takes a long time to be able to land another job in this industry. If you want out be ready to settle for much less base and much more work with more stringent hours and the lack of flexibility this job offers. I did it once and made 35k for 4 miserable months at a sales company outside of pharma that offered me the world...not gonna happen.
Good luck to all of you. This is just the beginning of mNy more layoffs to happen at this company.

You just have never been through a layoff or you would not be so flippant regarding the situation. This is a stressful time
For people;there's no need to be see if you can "get a reaction"; immature individual!

I have been here forever & just jumped ship for another pharma gig
that beat my salary & vacation package! So close to a layoff & severance but couldn't refuse this
offer. Couldn't wait to escape a shitty boss who underscored me for so long because the RD held a gun to their head. Great pharma company & had no issues with me working for this awful company. If you escape the layoffs, there WILL be more!!!!!

Hey congrats. I just left forest a month ago after being at forest for 1.5 years. I'm also with another pharma company. This company also looks down on forest. They even told me in the interviews that forest is a stepping stone. I wanted to wait for a severance, but the offer was too good. Had to take it and now I'm happier than ever

This is the problem! IT IS JUST A JOB! I didn't want to believe that-I wrote posts like yours. I let this job define me...."I'm great at this, my base is over 100k, I've helped so many partners, I really care...." Honey-it's not true. It's just a job. If you let this job define you you'll downward spiral when you lose it. You are not your job!

The job does not define me. But it does determine how well my family is provided for. You are missing the point. Go on any career website and see how many pharma jobs are available....VERY VERY FEW.

Don't limit yourself to pharma. There are other industries and careers out there. Pharma reps aren't the only people who make a decent living.

Your experience, location, age, success, contacts, interviewing & networking skills, salary & other factors will be in play when looking for a new job (if necessary). I get that this job isn't defining you as a person but seems like the salary is. We aren't necessarily "worth" what we make here. If you've been here a while (especially the ten plus years like I am) you make A LOT. Yeah-some jobs pay similar but most don't and mgrs/companies don't believe you're fine with a 20-40k + pay cut.
Oh well-ya can't get all freaked about it-the market dictates what you're worth. That's the deal when you don't have a specific skill set/career with a more defined income structure. That's nothing new. You're just like everyone else. Do what you can.
