I am leaving this industry :D

fuck pharma

Secured a role in a real sales environment and have pathways to promotion in 6 figures and bonus. This industry is a joke. I did it for a moment but understand this in 2022 if your only experience is pharma (young person or old), you will have a hard time finding another job that pays you anything close to this. And this pay is a joke (unless biotech or specialty, which most of you are not :) ), so if you think it's a lot then you are in for a wake-up during a layoff and can't get a contract role quickly.

I laugh as you all sweat the next ride along as your access dwindles and the caterer you used has a delay in your lunch and that pisses off all your MAs. LMAO GOOD LUCK (AND IN PRIMARY CARE NO LESS.)

What a Dunb ass move.
This is the easiest job you’ll ever have.
I get paid great money here. Plus the benefits will be tough to beat at another pharma company. It’s almost impossible to find another job outside of pharma that even sniffs our benefits. Better think about all that as it’s part of your bottom line.

Ikl stay in this industry until I die if I can.
All you’ve got to do is go see the people that you’re supposed to see. Be friendly, take them lunch occasionally, maybe give them a quick reminder about your drug, act positive on your district calls and you will have a job for a long long time.

There’s not a whole lot of selling that goes on outside of a lunch interaction so most of your day is sample dropping & socializing.

Good luck selling real estate or milking yourself trying to break even as a insurance sales person lol .. oh with NO benefits.

And God help you if you’re trying to be a financial advisor where only 5% make any decent money

great move.

When you consider the micromanagement and lack of professionalism and lack of job security in this industry, you have to be a complete moron to continue in it.

anyone that defends this industry as a career lacks intelligence and wisdom.

good luck to you. I was in the industry for about 10-15 years when I was in my mid 20s to late 30s, and it got progressively worse every year. life has never been better now that I am teaching and living a stress free, summers off life, with lots of world travelling and fun educating young people.

Beautiful! Congratulations to you. OP here. Thank you for the kind words as well.

It's people like you that were about 20% of the reason I had to leave this industry. The other 80% is pretty much what I posted about.

Why you so salty? Lol I would think you would be happy for yourself all the while wishing the best for your coworkers choosing to stay in pharma. So much anger and bitterness. Hope your new real sales environment brings you more happiness.

I tried leaving Pharma after my first layoff 8 years ago, and took a job as a Financial Sales Representative at a bank. My job was to open checking & savings accounts, and get customers to apply for credit cards, and home equity loans; I even got licensed to sell annuities.

I thought this would provide me a more stable, term career option with less day to day pressure -it wasn’t..Not only was the salary less than half of what a “low” Pharma salary is, the pressure of selling was just as high, if not higher, and I was stuck behind a desk all day working 8:30 to 5, Monday - Friday! To earn commissions, I had to accumulate 25,000 points per quarter; I would earn 50 points for every checking account, 75 for Savings, 150 for credit cards, and 500 points for a Home equity loan…If I hit the 25,000 benchmark, I would earn a whopping $1,500…So, basically, I could sell a 30 year, $75,000 Home Equity loan at 6.5% APR, and the bank makes over double the amount on the loan, and I get 500 points…Needless to say, I jumped back to Pharma when I got the opportunity.

A few years later, after another layoff, I tried to go into the insurance sales business..No pressure at all from management to sell because I was a commission only agent, but still a lot of pressure because you have to sell to make any money at all, and no benefits, car, gas card, etc…I did really well for a new agent; I sold over $175K in new premium which netted me about $60k with a lot of wear & tear on my vehicle, and of course my wife had to add me to her insurance which increased her premiums exponentially. So, after a year of that, I jumped back to Pharma.

So, here I am, and I’ll stay here because there is pressure, and uncertainty everywhere in every business, and I’d rather have the relatively high-paying/compensation (using an hourly wage equation) & great benefits, and I’ll gladly take the uncertainty that comes along with it.

Maybe you will succeed at your Real Estate endeavor, and if so, congratulations to you!

I’m assuming your only experience has been with Lilly. Let me guess, they hired you right out of college and in primary care.
Their are many other companies that offer better pay, less BS and your in a specialty role.

Lilly is unique in the BS that they have reps do. Their bonus sucks and after you come in at what you think is a high base, your increases will be nothing.

you’ll have to jump hoops and kiss ass and do ridiculous projects that have nothing to do with sales just to get promoted. Oh and the company is filled with people with no experience who think they understand the industry.

Once you leave, you realize other companies offer much more with less BS.

Good luck to you.

If only……you may find the rare company with less BS, but for the most part it ends up being same BS, different company name on the paycheck. Best of luck to you finding what you are looking for.

Tell me your a young green rep that was about to get fired, without telling me….. What a joke enjoy “real sales” in a recession.

Totally agree. Nowhere is perfect. At least here I know what I deal with and have tenure .

People who keep bitching need to leave.

I'm the OP, and I think what you think is pretty much the embodiment of why I hate this industry. And mind you, it this *industry* alone where attidude like this exists.

You do not contribute anything. Maybe you helped a senile doctor along their path to prescription, but in the grand scheme of things - you offer one thing and one thing only - food. So take your tenure, and your next week of breakfasts and lunches, shove it up your dick, and maybe Eli lily will come out with a 10000 per month treatment for you to fix it so you can feel how these patients feel for the first time in your life :)

Yeah ok, and he will still be making way more money than you ever will. BTW, How’s it going?

I'm the OP... I may have jumped the gun a bit with that post, I left my job for about 7 months then I had to come crawling back. I'm currently on my 3rd contract job in 4 years. I have enough chick fil a points to eat free 2 times a week so I guess you could say I'm pretty happy.

Natural GLP 1 lasts only for a few minutes. Newer synthetic GLP 1 lasts for weeks. Is it healthy to maximumly stimulate pancreas in otherwise healthy obese patients with mega doses of synthetic GLP 1? Pancreatitis is a risk for pancreatic cancer.

Slowed gastric emptying is a side effect and will cause temporary weight loss. Is this temporary weight loss worth the possible risk to the pancreas?

Executives cash stock options. Lawyer make money. Everyone else is fired.

This whole GLP situation is sad. When you have normal to slightly overweight people paying big bucks to lose muscle. But you are right, the money is flowing in.

Natural GLP1 lasts for minutes. Synthetic long acting GLP1 lasts for weeks. Do you think long term mega doses of long acting artificial GLP1 stimulating healthy pancreas is a good idea for temporary weight loss? Is the stock price the only consideration?
