Hybrid vs. remote working

Hi, I'm interested in an AZ role that - from the job description - is aligned to the Gaithersburg, MD site. Caveat is that I don't live in MD anymore and don't have near-term plans to move as it would be far from family. My question is: has anyone been able to successfully negotiate - assuming getting to the job offer - convert a role from on-site to remote? I've heard that AZ is considering changing their policies to match companies like Merck and Novartis, who apparently have more lenient policies around remote work.

Magic 8 ball says "not likely" - predominantly in person culture and pushing it hard right now with metrics. 3-days/week is the ask with leadership monitoring the metric at 25% threshold

Thanks for the responses. But my question was more about how flexible is AZ to negotiate with a successful candidate applying for a job (aligned to an AZ location) to being fully remote? I ask because actually see remote jobs posted on AZ's career site. This leads me to conclude that some jobs can be conducted 100% remotely. For some niche roles (i.e. highly technical) are hard to find, and companies have to cast a wider net geographically.

I suppose it all depends on demand and supply for the exact skillset of the role.

There's no remote working role in AZ. They'll post it remote to get candidates & once you join they'll expect you to be there at least 3-4 days a week. Don't get fooled by their tactics!

Actually, the HR recruiter for this role told me the opposite. They said they have made arrangements in the past for candidates with niche , very specific expertise to travel a certain % to a specific site. This is only if they can't find enough candidates on the market.

This surprises me. Unless you are field sales. If you are interested in the role, suggest continuing with the interviews but press on this as you discuss with various interviewers. Also, consider how this would fair as you look to progress with the company that is undoubtedly an in-person culture (not that this is bad but just a consideration if you are looking for advancement versus just a 2-3 year job).

The role itself is leveled fairly senior, so even if I wanted to develop my career within the company, I don't think this much room for advancement than if this were a more junior level role (i.e. manager). It's also a support role, so it's harder to argue value add unless you're inherently in a role that is value-generating. I also heard it's hard to get promoted in AZ unless you transfer to another role, or leave and come back.
I'm aware AZ's working culture is very social (Swedes love Fikas!), compared to other companies' working culture that are more results-driven... not saying that AZ isn't results-driven, just that their cultural way of doing things is more in-person, if that makes sense. I think I would just negotiate "hybrid" that allows me to travel a certain % upfront so to establish a relationship with work colleagues, and see where that goes.

Get ready for the new year. AZ is planning to follow the Pfizer model and open up call centers filled with virtual full time reps. This will allow AZ to lay off most of their live sales force in 2023 and replace them with new graduates at cut rate prices at a phone center like Pfizer did. Good luck on looking for a new job! I'm getting my resume out their this week.

If true and that is a big "if", the result will be a diminution of effect/impact over time. Again if true, I'll take my package and skipadee do da my ass out of here.

What's the Pfizer model of virtual full-time reps?

As they should, virtual reps are just as effective as the field force primadonnas without the extravagant expense
That is not true. The virtual reps are a complete waste of money. They call and talk to the front desk. They have no relationships with the providers since they have never met them. The most effective engagements are in person.
