Huge layoffs

Heard today that Global Marketing had major layoffs. Half of the group is gone. Even though they mentioned at the NTM we wouldn't see change(firings) until next year it seems they will be moving faster than what was communicated.

CSR here,

We were told Q3 they would making the changes and training Q4. NTM they basically laid it out to us. Pretty much said they can't keep everyone but they would treat everyone with great respect. Even our VP said July ...

yep, in his little video. Everyone said after the first half of the year "we will know what the sales force will look like in 2013" They broke down the changes for Q3and Q4 during NTM.

That is not what we were told at the Inc NTM. We were told "not everyone will have the skill sets to continue with the new organization", those remaining will be given their new responsibilities in July-Sept time frame (which makes sense; training has to occurr), the machine will be up and running by the end of the year. I don't think everyone will know their fate by July, but I think everyone will by the end of the summer.

I am curious about what management changes there will be (I am a rep). I think DMs could easily handle 12-15 reps if the DM actually does a management role instead of a quasi-management role they now do. I can understand a manager doing 3 day field visits with a new rep, or with a rep who is struggling, but that is all. I can't think of any other industry or any other medical device company where a manager is paid to watch someone else work for 3 days. If the DMs had been smart, they would have gotten rid of this policy themselves years ago by saying they were too busy to stand around watching their reps work. Now it is too late for them. Everyone know you can get rid of half of them and the business won't be effected.

Don't forget..there were more than just sales reps in the room at NTM when that comment was made...RBD's, DM's, marketing product directors, etc.

I'm just curious as to why they keep hiring to fill open sales positions at EP and Endo. At this point they know if they will be reducing sales force count. If they are, why hire? These folks won't even be out of training until June or July. And don't point to last year as an example. Those layoff decisions came from higher than those who gave the approval to hire. Even the VP's were caught off guard with the September layoffs.

don't know if this is true, but I heard one of the 5 or 7 positions that was reopened in EP was the HSR spot in DC and now it will be left vacant. Maybe hiring has halted again.

I think most of our DM's at Endo are worthless. They don't drive any business. In fact, by stalking their reps and trying to get into cases to "observe", they make everyone in the OR's job more difficult.

off topic here but why do ASR's get promotes so quick? Every one of them in my region lasts maybe 6 months and then gets a position. On top of that, they are all young with no sales experience. I don't know what EES is thinking of. They are all nice enough but c'mon they have not proven a thing. Am I just being an ass? Don't you think someone should have proven sales experience. At least 5 years imo!

Everyone will know in JUNE if they have a job or not. The new organization will be up and running January 1st - training will be in 4th quarter this year. This was said multiple times by Pruden.
