HR there will be lawsuits if old DM doesn't quit giving bad references!

I am an ex employee of Astellas. I have now got compliance and EEOC involved. I had an excellent record and all was well when I left, which unfortunately just got laid off from. I have had 3 instances where I was a DM's first pick, ready for offer, and they either knew my old DM, which i had a great relationship with, or they knew someone else. Needless to say, my offers "fell through"? With great credit great driving record- someone is backstabbing me. I had a friend who is still an employee there that hates me and works with these people. Beginning to think rumors were spread. Amazing- very good run there, and this person, who has a vendetta, has turned on me and obviously has said crap to old Dms' etc at Astellas. It is hard when the people know each other personally. Otherwise, I a sure they would do what they should do- is he hirable? When did he work here? I am going to get to the bottom of this, seeing how I have refrerrals from these companies

Same thing happened to me. I would have someone check into it for you. This is illegal as we all know.
 






To make this more clear, I had offer, and then magically something happended with position. There are 3 DM's at 3 diff. co's that knew mine or someone else who knows me with Astellas. My DM and i got along great at Astellas. There is a brownnoser I can't stand, and I know started bashing me as soon as I left. I have already spoken with EEOC. They can be fined heavily. I also meant I had good referrals of people that really know me at the co's. I was interviewing for Why offer, and then so nicely say, oh= we are not going to fill at this time due to blah blah blah....... NOt you got a bad reference and we don't want you. One of them I know they got "hired instead of me, after my approval from RD. there is NOTHING in my past. Nothing. I have my credit report, driving record, etc. Someone is doing something bad and they are going to get sued heavily. Along with Astellas. Crazy! I took a great job at another company, but they laid off my division. So now I am in the pool of jillions of candidates! Watch out! Pips are to get you to leave. Make them fire you and get the package!

Do you have solid proof that you are being slandered? I would get that and then sue, but know that Astellas has deep pockets. It would be nice to think that a RD would be smarter than to listen to gossip, but nothing surprises me now a days. There is no integrity in our industry. I got out.
 






The proof I have is when they say, "oh, I know xyz" I am going to give them a call, offer will be coming, training will be ..... and all of a sudden after RD approval, verbal offer, it "falls through". After so many times (5 now) I think I know what has happened.. For instance, I iv'd for a urology position 2 weeks ago, they loved my resume, then spouted off 3 names of people they know personally from Astellas. One a rep,I DM, and 1 RD in a different division, but was in mine for a short time. Can you believe that right after iv, as well as it went, I would most likely iv in 2 days, blah blah, that I got the "we have more qualified candidates" from the hiring DM before I reached the car. Well, about 10 min. after iv. and her telling me when f2f are, and I have a great record btw, so I am very suspicious. I am even having people call them and ask for references and they never answer phone and do not call back to give me a reference. I smell a rat. What do you do, when obviously this jerk who is a brown noser and has a vendetta is being this unprofessional. This person also knows I have a family to feed. Very sad and stressful. Anyone else?

Astellas managers are the most corrupt scumbag bunch I have ever seen in 20 plus year career. Go find a good employment lawyer as soon as possible.
By this I mean ask friends for references. There are a lot of integrityless employment lawyers that will tell you that you have a case just to defraud you out of your money.
(I had two crooked lawyers try to rip me off until, on the third try, I found a lawyer with some integrity). You will probably need to document astellas actions by a third party employment verification company and then have lawyer send a cease and desist order.
But talk to a lawyer (one with integritty and references) first.

These scumbags at astellas fought my unemployment for 6 months. However, I won and astellas (or as I call astellas, Crimminal Scumbags Inc.) had to pay a fine for jerking me around. This company is visciously vindictive to employees current and former. I don't put anything past this bunch of crooked managers that run astellas. They are in fact NAZIS.
 






I totally understand where you are coming from. I truly believe this happend to me years ago at a small pharma company. I started a new job. 2 weeks into the job, I was terminated without cause.

With that said and Astellas being a large organization; I've been told that they only verify employment dates and title.

I would not give out my dm name if possible. I know pharma is a small world. I wish you the best.

I am sorry for your situation. Was in the same myself and it is very stressful when you are sole money maker for your family. I agree that it is suspicious, but I wouldn't want to work for people who listen to gossip that is unfounded anyway. That is pathetic. If I were a manager, I would trust my own judgement but then again, I have integrity.

Keep pushing forward and look outside of pharma. There are more opportunities than we realize. It just takes a keen eye and detective work...and let's be honest, connections at times to find them. I wish you luck and again, so sorry you are going through this as well.

Lastly, I had a former DM that really championed me call around to do detective work. You may want to do your own "detective" work. If this is occurring, which I believe it is, then Astellas is in for multiple lawsuits.
 












DM is Dumb mediocrity. They have no purpose. Mine always had a conference call at 2 but when he traveled he rode with reps all day, no conference call. I believe he was bailing? Hmmm. 160K a year to do nothing but reports, ride harley, do more reports, watch tv, listen to vm, watch tv, look at emails. That is what they do. Useless.

I have tried to be a detective. However, when my friends call the DM's they don't call back to give references. This has only occurred when the DM I interview personally knows someone at Astellas and knows they won't rat them out. They would never badmouth me to someone they don't know. So how else can I catch them??

HR here- References are a big grey area. Technically the only thing an employer can legally provide is dates employed i.e. 1-1-2003 to 1-1-2011, and your title from the position you held upon leaving the company. Many district managers will dance around this issue when they are called for a reference. As a member of HR who has called MANY references- there are ways to answer the questions without breaking the laws. "So Mr. Manager- would you hire "Bill" back if you had an opening??? Off the record of course......"

My recommendation is to REALLY know your references- and like you said- have a friend do a test call and record it. Two can play at this game---

the issue here doesnt appear to be references but connections. employment history/verification is different from "references." most people dont put down references they dont have confidence in to be complimentary. the bigger issue and gray area is when someone knows someone else and they talk outside the box-which can be good or bad. in this instance i imagine the only option is to verify what was said and to whom and possibly file a libel suit against the person.

If you spend more than 5 years in this industry, read some journals, go to some conferences and take a general interest in medicine outside of what you sell you'd figure this poor delusional psycho out,
Every boob knew this kid in Arizona was a psycho and you don't see any of this in the OP?

I feel bad for anybody suffering in this economy but I don't have to suffer delusional mental illness screaming that Astellas wronged him. I hope he gets it sorted out with some counseling before he goes postal.
