HR Department

My only experience with HR was not good. They act like they are on your side and that they are trying to help you, but, then they turnaround and provide your management with all the information they need to write you up.

This is so true. Look at what Sweeney was able to get away with in the southeast region. He even attended two meetings of " interventions" involving managers in Florida who were clearly violating company and HR policies within their districts, yet they both kept their jobs. HR worked with him to cover it up. Absolutely incredible. Genentech eventually got rid of Sweeney as soon as possible when they found out what kind of person he was. He didn't want it known that his managers were misbehaving. He actually thought he was a Golden Boy in the Genentech culture.

My God, you are spreading gossip about a guy thats gone 3 years? Geez! Here is the truth (IM no fan of Sweeney, but facts are facts).
- He Held many positions within the Organization, including VP roles
- While Tim George was prepping for the failed Taspo launch, Sweeney was selecting to be Acting VP of Sales for six months (this occurred less than a year before the layoffs were announced.
- Sweeney was let go when the mass layoff occurred; as we went from 8 Regions to 3 regions, something like 80% of the entire primary care force was let go due to no products, or near term pipeline. The other 20% were dismissed 12 months later. In fact, in that same layoff, a DM that had won 3 consecutive years of Presidents club (including the year of the layoff was terminated)

Again, I am no fan of Sweeney, believe that; but your assertions are just mean spirited and cowardly anonymous lies. He was very well thought of, and obviously some very good people are let go when a division 100% of a division of 800 people are let go.

Nice try though. Just stick with facts, and your cowardice would be more believable!

Ok, here are some facts.
- Several of the southeast division managers were completely out of control. He encouraged it and knew it but did nothing when they took it too far. Two females were completely out of line with their divisions, yet no action was taken when he found out about it..why?
- He covered up this fact by making sure he silenced any negative remarks made to HR.
- They got rid of him at the very first opportunity after seeing his management style while he was interim VP. They didn't like his management by fear tactics when they found out more about his history.

Since you think it's so terrible to be anonymous on this board, why didn't you identify yourself tough guy? I know why.

Here we go again:

You state as FACT:

"Several of the southeast division managers were completely out of control. He encouraged it and knew it but did nothing when they took it too far. Two females were completely out of line with their divisions, yet no action was taken when he found out about it..why?"

These of course are OPINIONS. Terms like "out of control", "encouraged", "took it too far", "out of line", found out about "IT" (whats that" these are all opinions, how can you claim them as FACTS.

A FACT is something that can be proven or disproven(it does not have to be correct) Next, back to your OPINIONS, you state an actual FACTS that "he knew IT and did nothing"", "He covered up this fact by making sure he silenced any negative remarks made to HR". These are all generic statements with no offer of proof, that there was anything to actually "cover-up". So FACT yes, credible NO. Just because reps are whining, does not mean that there is an HR issue.

Another actual fact that you state is "They got rid of him at the very first opportunity after seeing his management style while he was interim VP. They didn't like his management by fear tactics when they found out more about his history." Well, that FACT is mean spirited and patently FALSE"; and I can prove it.

Sweeney was with Roche for more than 15 years, and held several high level positions, including acting VP of sales. This alone speaks volumes for what leadership felt about him. He was assigned to act is VP of Sales for 6 months, because the "Real" VP took on a role to prep for a new product launch, when that stint was over, both men resumed their previous positions. This is statement of ACTUAL PROVABLE FACT! Sweeney was a Sr. Regional Sales Director, whose region was eliminated as we went from 8 regions to 3, again ACTUAL PROVABLE FACT! Everyone in Sweeneys regional office was let go, as well as 80% of ALL of primary care, ACTUAL PROVABLE FACT! Within 12 months of this event, the remaining 20% of primary care was eliminated, and there is currently NO primary care in Genentech, ACTUAL PROVABLE FACT!

So again, Im not saying that I am or am not a fan of Sweeney, but coming on Cafepharma, to anonymously spread provable falsehoods, like They got rid of him at the very first opportunity after seeing his management style while he was interim VP. They didn't like his management by fear tactics when they found out more about his history." is just wrong.

You can state your opinions, but they are just opinions, neither right nor wrong. But, you cant have your own "FACTS". Lying and slandering someone on cafepharma is wrong, doing it anonymously is pure cowardice.

BTW, its ok for me to be anonymous because I am not besmirching soemone elses reputation, YOU ARE! Why dont you put your name behind your slander?

HR in the days for the real Genentech always did the right thing. Not what was supportive of Sr management or always the rep. The stood up for those that were treated wrongly.

About 5-7 years ago all of this changed. Everything was about management. One RM screamed and cursed at a rep in from of many others in the lobby of a hotel and NOTHING was ever done about it. This was not his first issue either

Ok, you won't sign your posts, but we know who you are. Just go back to your rocking chair at the Happy Acres Nursing home and for the hundredth time tell the other residents how you used to "be somebody" and could "ruin lives and careers with the wave of your hand....and nobody could do anything about it." Now quietly recede away into your retirement so we don't have to hear any more from you about how wonderful you used to be. We got plenty of that every time you opened your mouth, it was always about you.

Wrong, not sweeney, but someone who reported directly to him, thus would know more than you do as a rep. Again, not a big fan of his, but fair is fair. If youre gonna slander someone, at least dont confuse facts with opinions, and for goodness sake, don't be a Coward,,,PUT YOUR NAME ON IT!

Hmmm....where's YOUR name on YOUR post, oh one that "isn't a fan" yet makes post after post defending someone you didn't like? You resort to name calling when you have no courage to sign your own statements. Just sign your post, tough guy. If it's good enough for me why isn't it good enough for you? As usual, you can only be tough when you have all the power and control. Otherwise, YOU are the TRUE coward. Well, thankfully that power and control is gone now. I'm still waiting to hear from ONE person that says one positive thing about his leadership and business sense. Not a single one has (honestly) come forth, only a fictitious person that "reported directly to him" but feels compelled to keep reminding us he "wasn't a fan" that won't sign their posts. Stop the name calling, stop being bitter about not being a good leader and accept that you just didn't fit into the Genentech way of doing things.

NIce!You try to turn things around on me??? You purpose, and anonymously get on a website and lie about a man. I said nothing personal against either you sweeney, so there is nothing to put my name behind. I simply pointed out that you (an anonymous slanderer) were lying, and gave indisputable proof that you were. Again, I say to YOU, if you are going to spread rumors and slander the name of someone by name, then you should have the courage to put your own name behind it.

By the way, if I decide to gossip and lie about someone on cafepharma, I asure you that I will have the courage and confidence to put my name behind it..."tough guy"/

Don't post when you're drunk, and proof read your posts before sending your rambling rants.

HR and legal full of angry h0m0s, the women want to be men and the men want to be women a lot of mental illness in those dept's

There's a long history of HR problems on the Roche legacy side also. They completely protected incompetent division managers and the regional. Several met the threshold for termination and should have been fired. Bullying and threats were part of the accepted management style. Just see previous posts about the Southeast Region.

On the Roche side, it all depended on what rank you achieved in the mighty Swiss army.
