How to manage my motivation since we're paid differently

How do you do this? I'm asked to "GO GO GO" and get tons of prescriptions for this launch, yet when I do, I feel the only ones to benefit will be my BI and Lilly counterparts. Also, they're not held to the same number of calls per physician that we are, so that's going to affect things, too.

So have you told these counterparts directly how you're paid and how you're different with respect to call averages and the like?

I have no intention of busting my ass so that THEY can benefit financially. Is this wrong?

Nope

The harder you work, the more money your counterparts make. This is contract sales! Your free gas & sandwich from lunch is your bonus. Your manager only knows the big Pharma way of managing, so don't expect anything from them. Use your time to get out or just enjoy the 3 hour days and zip it.

Make as many calls a day as sirnature/sample is required and fake the rest. All contracts come with a requirement to satisfy the client based on what the contract calls for and InVentiv will pad it by one or two to make up for empty territories. I had an experience a few years back in which we too were launching a product. Anything above 100% to plan the cleint (who had mirrored territories for the entire sales force) were bonused money per Rx. Needless to say in some territories reps were making 25k each of the the first two quarters of the launch and we made 6k. They offered a lousy 500.00 a quarter kicker to keep things even which was a joke.

This is why we are all called contract, cso, or temp. Because we are. It's not even close to the same. We are a dime a dozen and worth nothing in reality.

I shoulda gathered this when a person at the launch meeting said we'd get paid "double" on new prescriptions written during the first month after launch. How ridiculous is this? Give me a break. I'm still getting the messaging down at this point, not to mention that Lilly lost out on 2-3 weeks of promoting with me in the field. And $500 a quarter? Wow, after taxes that's an extra $100 per month!

Okay, you answered my question. Meet the parameters I'm supposed to meet and live my life after those are met. Don't go over and above. Nice to be motivated in this manner.

I've been with ventiv for almost 18 months and I've only been paid 2 bonus checks. My counter part gets paid every quarter like clock work with BMS. I sit back and wait for all of the guess work to be done by ventiv and then I get paid about 6 weeks after him. These guys would fuck up a 2 man parade.

Its very obvious that they delay payout as long as possible for several reasons- the interest they make on the money, they don't have to pay anyone who leaves the company prior to payout and they know there is nothing we can do about it... we are contractors.

Sadly, they don't do the math on the fact that- when you treat people like shit: they give you shit effort.

Imagine how hard we all would work if we felt valued? Imagine how much better our product would be for our clients (you know the companies that contract us)...

GoGoGo! and you're Big PHarma counterparts will thank you hardly when they pick up their bonus points prize AMEX gift card, new tech toy/tv...or win the Pres. Club trip while you get a nice "At'a Boy!" certificate fresh off your DM's inkjet printer.

So very true, kind of sad. We are held to a higher standard of call metrics, signature rate, sample rate etc all while a good majority of our big pharma counterparts work half as much and reap all the rewards. Unfortunately big pharma is not hiring much anymore and if so there are a ton of laid off reps applying. Pharma will never be the same, if we wish to say it looks as though we are stuck in the CSO enviornment.

Just because you cannot get one of those jobs does not mean there are no more good jobs. They are very few but they are out there. I have several friends still enjoying great success and huge $. We just aren't as fortunate. I guess we deserve what we got as they keep telling us.

As a small pharma rep that is looking to break into the DM role, I understand the frustration at bonus differential between CSOs and big pharma reps. I truly do, and it makes sense that the bitching comes to places like CP. What I don't understand is why there are some(not all) CSO reps that let their job frustration carry over into their performance on a day in and day out basis. Why not use the time here to IMPROVE your position, IMPROVE your skill, then IMPROVE your job?!? A shitty performance and shitty attitude at a place like Ventiv makes you the bottom of the barrel as candidates for jobs at big/smallpharma.

Pissed at your bonus? fine. do something about it.

previous post is accurate....this is a bitch/moan site..true I suspect most CSO reps are trying to do something about it (if not , you'll be forced to when contract ends.

As for going for DM for a CSO...now that's just plain sad...like saying you want to be captain of the Titanic after it hit the iceberg.

Hey Mr. DM wannabe. We are all the bottom of the barrel. Including you!!!!!!!!!!

AND BE SURE TO USE MOST OF YOUR SICK DAYS...THEY R FIGURED INTO YOUR TIME OFF. REMEMBER VENTIV ALLOWS 6 OCCURANCES & EACH OCCURANCE CAN BE UP TO 5 DAYS. SO FAR I'VE JUST TAKEN 1 DAY @ A TIME, BUT I WIL GET REAL SICK FOR 3-4 DAYS TOWARDS THE END OF THE YEAR WHEN I SEE THAT I HAVE NOT USED MY OCCURANCES FOR REAL ILLNESSES! LACK OF EQUAL VACATION IS MY #1 COMPLAINT. MY PARTNERS GET 4 WEEKS AS A 1 & 3 YEARS W/ THE PARENT COMPANY & I GET 2 WEEKS UNTIL 5 YEARS-THAT STINKS!

How big of a dumbass do you have to be to want to "be a DM" in an industry that is dying a slow death? Stupid fucking idiot........
