1) Start with the contract companies, SOS, Quintiles, etc.
2) Get lucky by keeping your eyes open for opportunities with big companies. They are more willing to take on new people than smaller companies because they will need a lot of liaisons and it is less of a blow if one doesn't work out.
3) Networking could help.
4) Keep at it and eventually you will get an interview. From there it is up to you.

i've heard different things about the amount of travel msls do. some companies say 50% while others say 75% (3+ days in the field). an msl friend of mine does travel but it doesn't seem as frequent as 75% of a work week...some weeks not even 50% from conversations i've had with him. what is it really like for a "good" msl?

what do most msls do to advance their careers? management? can msls move into senior level (VP) administration over time?

does anyone know of someone who went into an msl position from a research phd and then moved back into the lab (r&d) after being an msl?

Yes, you can move into management but if you think having your head in the hood for 10 years gives you the stuff to make a manager you are deluded. you'll need years to show you have skills to move up of you have no major supervisory experience
