Many companies are using their tax abatement windfalls to buy back stock. Is this company transparent wrt how much stock they are buying back and timing of such? The recent increase in stock price was too large to be

Stock buy-backs are not a one time event (use repatriated cash as part of tax bill change). Lilly just completed a $5 billion stock buy-back and announced a new $8 billion buy-back. Going back in Lilly history, this is done every five years or so. With the recent surge in Lilly share price over the past several weeks, if the stock price remains in the 90s, don't be surprised if the board announces a 2 for 1 stock split. This tends to be more of a psychological benefit, since the split provides twice the shares at half the price, but shareholders feel better since they own more shares. The last stock split took place over 20 years ago. The stock split on Oct 15, 1997 (the share price for Q3 was $107.23). The prior stock split took place just two years prior on Nov 15, 1995 (the share price for Q3 was $83.69). Yesterday's closing price was the mid-point of these two prices for stock splits.

I have worked in Pharma for another company for 25+ years but I bought stock in Lilly instead of my company and certainly have no complaints. Personally, I don't care why Lilly stock is a top gainer in my portfolio, I just love your company for making me a lot richer while heading into retirement. Thank You Lilly.

Lilly retiree here. I retired at the end of 2014. As a member of leadership, I accumulated Lilly shares over my career. Since YE 2014, Lilly stock price has increased over 50% and my 401k balance has increased over $500k. And I receive a monthly pension. Thanks, Lilly !
