This is certainly accurate but might be built on the idea that leaders would act rationally with the best interests or demands of shareholders in mind. But Giovanni and Chris Boerner are both men whose leadership is based 99% on emotion, not rationality.
I have no idea what terrible things must have happened to Giovanni in his youth but he led BMS in a Voldemort / Darth Vader / Captain Queeg fashion using anger, fear and intimidation to manage employees of all levels to dictate decisions on virtually all issues from science to commercial. Chris Boerner operates like the quintessential tiny man who was bullied as a child and who uses every opportunity to make himself look smart and tough, surrounding himself with sycophants and talking down to people in front of others.
I have no idea why exactly Giovanni “retired” when he did, but if Chris had a role in pushing him out and I suspect he did then I am certain that everything Giovanni does moving forward will be part of a plan of tribulation. These are not rational leaders who will do what’s in the best interest of shareholders or employees. They will use their organizations to meet their own unique and intense emotional needs.
And the Board of Directors of BMS has never shown much interest or ability to manage its CEO.
I still think Chris should be watching over his shoulder!
